I will be interested to see how much we see Qualls at SAM. He played it quite a bit during pre-season. He's much more disciplined as a rusher than our other SAMs (well, one in particular) and I am curious to see what they will do with that.
With a running QB you don't necessarily want 'HEAT' from the edge. You want pocket collapse. And you want pocket collapse in such a way that it surrounds him and he can't escape.
My nightmare is that our OLBs lose contain and we give up huge plays to this clown because we aren't thinking about leverage.
We don't really match up with AZ well. But they suck.
It will be a fascinating game to watch. -
I read it.

how dare you question pete's chart

Good chit

Yeah, one of the key things about this article is I am implicitly overlooking the Arizona game, assuming we win what it should look like if things bode well for Stanford. Completely agree that flushing a mobile QB out from one side doesn't necessarily equate to winning the play.Dennis_DeYoung said:I will be interested to see how much we see Qualls at SAM. Something I forgot to comment on was how during the Sark era we recruited soooo many OLB types (although a lot of them were maybe more slow SS types) but here we are where his guys should be seniors and we are lacking in that department. -
Also, it apparently didn't post up properly, but this video had originally been part of the article.

Derek's art department doesn't allow for creative use of video or photos. Plus they use the same photos for both of our articles.

Analysis: Arizona sucks. Grambling played them tough.

UW is gonna kick their ass.
Some of you need to quit being so Gun Shy. -

Re: the DL, does Jaylen Johnson come back for this game?
-
how was that not a horse collar on the fake field goal?
cyler miles. LOL.
why did Peterman call a time out on the field goal? -
Van Winkle's Miss = hit it flush right into the middle of the upright ... good kick just missed ... that happens at times from 43
Long pass = True Frosh Sidney Jones making a Freshman mistake
Fake FG = the Sark in our players at that point of trying to make big plays versus doing your job ... you should NEVER lose contain on that short of a FG in that situation
Cyler being Cyler = can't blame Pete for trying to get into FG range at the 45 with 45 seconds to go ... you're only about 20 yards from giving Van Winkle a shot ... being there in person it looked way worse than it did on TV ... of course the patented Tanigawa rolling snap was in play as well
TD run before half = notice how EVERY single one of our DL is taking an outside lane on the rush = poor fundamentals = Sark
Poor snap on extra point = fucktardedness ... BTW credit to the Wild Swede for just getting on the ball ... something Cyler should have done earlier
Regarding the clock situation at the end ... that's just bad execution all the way around:
If you snap the 1st snap at 1 it is at 1:27 ... assuming you take a knee Arizona immediately takes a TO at around 1:24 or 1:25 to go. 40 seconds per play from there puts you in a spot where there's probably just 2-5 seconds left in the game before your 4th down play. If managed right, you can run the clock out.
Granted, I was watching the game there and trying to do the mental math while paying attention to everything else going on, but it seemed at the time like we were going to be in the 5-10 second range which changes things a bit.
So all of the things that go wrong here:
1) Pete should have instructed Miles to run the clock down to 1 second and take a timeout
2) Miles snapped the ball with 7 seconds left on the clock
3) Cooper fumbling the ball
One thing I'm not sure that I've ever heard discussed here was whether or not Pete was testing some of these guys in executing when they had to and it led to some disastrous results here.
Important to keep in mind here that this was an Arizona team that ended up winning the South. They sucked. We literally had to hand them the game over a half dozen times for them to finally win the game. I don't think we mentally fuck up anywhere close to that much anymore ... and they are definitely worse. This should be an easy game for us.
As for the TL, DR ... fuck off ... I was bored ... so away I went.

I agree with your general take away the factors leading to that loss are mostly not issues anymore - it's not if we win this game but how. A loss would be a complete disasterTequilla said:Van Winkle's Miss = hit it flush right into the middle of the upright ... good kick just missed ... that happens at times from 43

For us to lose the game we literally probably need a dozen guys to literally take a shit on themselves

Who gives a shit? It was a completely meaningless game (for UW) two years ago.Tequilla said:Van Winkle's Miss = hit it flush right into the middle of the upright ... good kick just missed ... that happens at times from 43

Browning could leak all over the offensive players and 1 defensive scrub whose job it is to wipe him up.Tequilla said:For us to lose the game we literally probably need a dozen guys to literally take a shit on themselves
You still will win but I don't personally see the shit being all that far fetched. -
