Has Petersen's shit offense ever surpassed reasonable expectations in a single game?
Hawaii -- W 17-16 -- Terrible.
Eastern Washington -- W 59-52. D2 team, no. Also wow Kawasaki and Lake turned shit around, good for them.
Illinois -- W 44-19 -- No. Terrible Illinois team. Gave up 34 to Western Kentucky, 35 to Texas State, 45 to Nebraska, 38 to Purdue, 38 to Wisconsin, 55 to Ohio State, 33 to Northwestern, and 35 to Louisiana Tech.
Georgia State -- W 45-14 -- Shit team.
Stanford -- L 13-20 -- Nope.
Cal -- W 31-7 -- Horrible defense, no.
Oregon -- L 20-45 -- lol
Arizona State -- L 10-24 -- Windstorms FTW.
Colorado -- W 38-23 -- Shit team. Shit defense.
UCLA -- L 30-44 -- ehh, maybe?
Arizona -- L 26-27 -- Probably the best the offense has looked for stretches, but one of the worst choke jobs (worse than 2007) makes this a 'no'.
Oregon State -- W 37-13 -- No.
WSU -- W 31-13 -- Worst D we* played all year, including Georgia State
Oklahoma State -- L 22-30 -- No.
2015
Boise State -- L 13-16 -- Awful.
Sacramento StateFS -- W 49-0 -- No.
Utah State -- W 31-17 -- No.
California -- L 24-30 -- One of the worst offensive performances I've ever seen. D started inside its own 40 SEVEN FUCKING TIMES. Fuck Petersen and fuck you.
USC -- W 17-12 -- Hell no. For one glorious drive at the end of the 3Q Smith/PetersenFS pounded Gaskin and it was beautiful. The rest was random playcall generator garbage, worthy only of being castrated, tarred, feathered, and set alight in Red Square.
Oregon -- L 20-26 -- Punting on Oregon's 39 on a 4th and 1 opening drive of the game, but how is Petersen's tenure effectively a failure already?
Stanford -- L 14-31 -- No.
Arizona -- W 49-3 -- Not really? Arizona gave up 32 to UTSA (WTFISUTSA?), 56 to UCLA, 55 to Stanford, 31 to Colorado, 45 to WSU, 38 to USC, 52 to ASU, and 37 to New Mexico.
Utah -- L 23-34 -- Swing and a miss.
ASU -- L 17-27 -- Murder everyone.
Oregon State -- W 52-7 -- It's fucking Oregon State. No credit.
WSU -- W 45-10 -- In the 'looks can be deceiving department', the O really only mounted 2 or 3 good drives. The rest was either defensive scores or the O being completely given a golden opportunity on a platter by the D...only to fuck around and end up kicking FGs. No.
SMU -- W 44-31 -- Maybe. Although SMU gave up 34 to Mississippi State, 50 (!) to Texas State, 36 to a Mike Riley-coached Nebraska team, 31 to Marshall, 31 to Old Dominion, and 45 to Western Kentucky.
You could argue, at best, that the dogshit Petersen offense performed above reasonable expectations in 3 out of 27 fucking games. And you can poke holes into those 3. And no credit is given for beating up shit teams. Any team with a pulse can do that.
But how is the season already over?
