It's all part of educating students to donate to causes they'll never actually support directly with their time or interest but might need to say they did one day.

I'm pretty sure UW is one of only two P12 schools that don't charge every student an athletics fee (the other being AZ, and I'm pretty sure that's about to change).
Make no mistake, I'm fundamentally opposed to an across the board athletic fee. But in this age of upgrading facilities for sports that lose a shit ton of money (hello Husky baseball, soccer, T&F), if our fucked up athletic department can shift some of their debt on to the backs of the current debt-laden students, let 'er rip.
