St Louis has gone through plenty of playoff wars and learned some lessons along the way ... for their current group this is probably their last shot before they have to break some of the squad up because of some cap reasons coming.

The Stars went into the season looking to get back into the playoffs and probably win a series. In an ideal world, narrow the gap between themselves and Chicago/St Louis. They probably out performed their expectations by winning the division by 2 points versus St Louis. They have a lot of youth on the roster and another crop of youngsters in the minors pushing to get to Dallas.

Losing Game 7 in this manner on one hand sucks, but in the long run, will probably be good for the organization. For as good as this team has been this year, the elephant in the room has been the goaltending and it just flat out hasn't been good enough. They need to find a solution to it because neither of the guys that they have is consistent enough to win 4 rounds in a row. It's the one position in their organization they don't have young depth pushing. You can't melt down like this in a Game 7 at home where both goalies have been bad without making some kind of change.

As for this series, it was always going to be uphill without having Tyler Seguin ... that'd be like Tarasenko away from St Louis ...

This was the worst matchup for the Stars and being able to play effectively in a 7 game series against a team built like the Blues they will have to address in the offseason. But this wasn't their goal going into the season ... it was making the playoffs and probably if anything preparing themselves to beat a team like Chicago (with good reason). Shit happens. I'd be surprised if they weren't a top 3-5 betting favorite to win the Cup next year though.
