Fair enough Derek, but IMO this ends very badly. Her own hire reeks of political correctness run amok. She is more likely to hire a transgender Todd Turner than a Jeremy Foley.

Like, I am super liberal and suspect that she is a great president of the UW in a lot of ways. She still scares the shit out of me when it comes to making this hire. Obviously you can't judge a book by its cover but it is simply rare to find people who rise to a high level in academics who recognize the value of football.

We'll find out more how she thinks from the hire, but after a succession of old, rich, white guys (Gerbs, McC, Emmert, the Mormon guy) that actively sabotaged or ignored the program, I'm willing to wait for her to mess up first before crying wolf.

She does seem way less stuffy than most academics, which is a good sign. -

I firmly believe that if Cohen is hired it is a financial decision first ahead of that of the good of the Athletic Department.
I don't completely know the inner workings of a AD and University Budget, but a Cohen hire is pure financial. The money available in the AD Budget I suspect is tight. If money can be allocated or moved from a reserve in the general University Budget (which IMO is a very smart way to build a budget is to include funds for contingencies, shortfalls, etc.), then a hire can be made intelligently.
I'm not sure how much of a hand the new President has had in building the Budget and what time period the Budget is covering (whether academic or calendar year). -

My guess is that the PC President won't have much role in it because people who are smarter and more accomplished than her realized they need to be involved to avoid another Todd TurnerFS. -

Perhaps now that we have a grown up in charge, hiring Cohen is the best result. Hire someone on the cheap and let them just get out of the way and let the grown ups run the football program. AD can go get some stuff done with track, hoops, water polo. Pete hasn't done anything with the actual program thus far that worries me with the way he will run it in the future, unlike Turner, Hedges, etc.
Now, if we're talking in game and clock issues, yeah, I got some concerns. -
