Romar = Tedford

The lack of incremental progress really hurt both of them. Didn't do it the right way
-
i strongly believe that my knowledge gained playing NBA jam on Sega Genesis would allow me to draw up a better in-bounds play than anything Romar has ever attempted in his life.
-
Romar is Mike Bellotti, Sure they both took the program to new highs but they both fail(ed) to fully utilize their talent, win big games, and were/are just good enough that its hard to fire them...
Oregon has balls so they fired Mike and went on to be a national power and didnt just sit content with a decent coach, UWs AD is filled with pussies, you know the rest...
Romar will be UWs coach until Romar decides he is done -
I've been saying that shit for two years. Welcome on the bandwagon.
Bellotti actually won a Fiesta Bowl and popped off. That's better than anything Romar has done. -

This is why I am jealous of Oregon. When was the last time they made a bad move? RoboDuck? -

Letting Todd Doxey go tubing didn't work out so well.

Those looking for the Huskies' director of athletics to rebuke Romar - or at least fire a warning shot at the coach following a second consecutive season out of the NCAA tournament -- have the wrong AD.MikeDamone said:This is all we need to know.

You know, when I was researching Bow Down to Willingham, I recall finding a quote from Todd Turner saying that he tuned out criticism of losing football games when he heard that Willingham had showed up unexpectedly at a classroom as a way to send a signal to some of his players. Turner said it put a smile on his face. It read very similar to this.

Romar is a mediocre x's and o's guy, but I don't want him fired. Despite two straight NIT appearances, he did win a Pac 12 title last year. We have one of the better program's in the Pac 12.

UW never has been, and never will be a basketball power. In fact, UCLA and to Arizona have been the only credible basketball schools in the conference. Sure, teams have made a run here and there, but lets face it, championship basketball in the Northwest just isn't happened. And I am including Gonzaga in that group. It's been close to 15 years since Gonzaga has made it to the elite 8. 4 times the made it to the sweet 16. Real basketball schools laugh at that.
Romar does about the best any coach UW can get would do. No coach who is capable of building a championship level program would ever be coaching at UW. Simple fact. Case closed. -
Having the sixth best program in the conference after UCLA, Arizona, Colorado, Cal, and Oregon is not special.RoadDawg55 said:Romar is a mediocre x's and o's guy, but I don't want him fired. Oregon finished ahead of UW one year, therefore they have a better hoops program?TierbsHsotBoobs said:

For Jake's sake man, let it play out or something.

Oregon has a better arena, a better coach, and ownership that actually cares.HillsboroDuck said:

Agree with one and three. I'm not convinced on #2. Altman was very mediocre before being hired at Oregon (much like Romar was very mediocre before coming to UW). Altman may be better than Romar, but I think it's early to declare that with certainty.TierbsHsotBoobs said:

No question about the other two, though. Will that translate to consistent hoops success? It might. They've had better ownership the entire Romar era and yet UW's been a consistently better program. The arena may be the game changer.

Altman at Creighton >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Romar at St. Louis.
Check the facts then pop off.
The big factor working in UW's favor is that the local talent base for Romar is worlds better than the local talent base for Altman. -
I guess. In 4 years at K State he made the tourney once and was one and done. In 16 years at Creighton he made the tourney 7 times, which is impressive, but went 1 and done 5 times and only won 2 tourney games total.TierbsHsotBoobs said:Altman at Creighton >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Romar at St. Louis.

Altman's been a head coach for 23 seasons and has 2 NCAA tournament wins in 8 trips (with the 9th pending). Romar's been a head coach for 17 seasons and has 8 wins in 6 trips. Altman is 2-8 in the tournament, Romar is 8-6.
Neither is an incredible coach but Altman's resume is the weaker of the two, IMO.

Yeah they basically were quite similar. Real good first half of the tenure before burning out the 2nd half.
