I don't have my chest puffed out at all (though it does feel good to have nailed the 7-6 record at the beginning of the season and again reaffirming after the USC win).

If you recall, I was the OP asking about recruiting and Tommie made a WTF post that showed he is still butt-hurt about Petersen not losing out so he would get fired just so that Tommie could be right.

Now it strongly looks like UW will finally get over the hump in 2016 (at least a 6-3 conference record) after overhauling the program for two years upon Sloppy Steve's departure and he still can't admit how FS he was in calling for Petersen to be fired 4 games into the 2015 season.

It is kind of odd that some of you have your chest puffed out after 7-6. I can kind of understand the optimism, but still..

I'm not bragging about anything other than me being right and you being dead wrong. Why can't you admit it was TommieFS for wanting to fire Petersen after the Cal game?

And since it sounds like you still think Petersen sucks, does that mean you project a 3-6 or 4-5 conference record next year? What sort of record will finally convince you that Petersen doesn't SUCK!!!2!!!!!!@!11!!!!!

Good to know you are refuse to back down from wanting Petersen fired barely into his 2nd year as coach.

And firing Petersen after he went 10-8 in his first 18 games while still cleaning up the dumpster fire Sarkisian left is FS. Why can't you admit that?

And since you're digging in, it sounds like you expect Petersen to go 6-6 in the regular season next year because he sucks right?

It just doesn't make sense to overreact to two early season losses in a coach's 2nd year because of LIPO. He went a decent 5-4 the rest of the way with the offense showing growth and winning a bowl game.

More than anything, firing a coach after his 18th game at a school is FS, not only for eating the rest of his 2015 salary but at least 2016 / 2017 (roughly $10 mil - $11 mil?) but also because no future coach in their right mind would want to risk being fired a quarter of the way through his 2nd season at UW.

Now this isn't all to say that Petersen will take UW to the Rose Bowl in 2016 but I think people should start feeling pretty good about the chances of going 6-3 or better in-conference in 2016. UW returns 16 starters (including QB, RB, and 4 of 5 OL) and the only guys we may miss are Feeney and Littleton.

The bigger point is that Tommie was leading the Petersen-Sucks-Fire-Him-ASAP crowd after the tough Oregon loss. Then he got louder after Magna Carta had to start the Stanford game, a team that is the best in the Pac-12.

But football, particularly the college game, can be a roller-coaster, especially considering that some key positions had true freshmen and other young guys starting. The old adage of you're never as good as you think you are and you're never as bad as you think you are definitely applied this year.

Again, I think some people would respect Tommie more if he admits he went overboard rather than clinging to the PETERSEN SUCKS!!!1!!@!!!!1!!!11!!!!! life-raft simply because he said it multiple times a few months ago.

As for 2016, UW has a great shot at being a 9 win regular season team next year...maybe even 10 wins if the chips fall right and the team avoids injury which would mean a 6-3 or 7-2 in-conference record which would be the best Pac-10 record since Skippy Neuheisel's 2001 campaign of 6-2.

    1) Will Kent Love stick with us or flip to USC? flip. Bark 4 sark

    2) Do we really have a shot at Juarez or is he more of a Reuben Foster that we'll lose to 'Bama and great Southern coffee? no shot. You don't turn down Saban(god)

    3) Who is this OG Hellbus that was committed to Stanford and now we may land him? nope. He'll test the watrers and re-up with 'Furd.

    4) Any news on the WRs? We need a WR that's at least 6 feet in this class. no news. Not a bumper crop year for WR.

    5) Any videos to any of them working out with their shirts off? (I kid, I kid). no you're not

    What was I wrong about???

    Petersen DOES suck.

Or did 7-6 give you wood like Sark used to.
It is amazing how often the old - play a batch of shitty teams at the end of the season - trick works.
Opponents' W/L record, excluding conf. champ. games and bowl games....

    - First 6 games of the season: 40-31
    - Last 6 games of the season: 40-32
Oregon State, Washington State and Southern Miss have caused the annual breakout of hey we were 6-6 but we don't suck bullshit. WSU and So Miss have good records but are shitty teams.

We lost to every decent team we played and a couple shitty ones like Cal and ASU

But this 4-5 was better than last years 4-5 and Sark's run of going 5-4

If you're a doog and you are
I said Petersen sucked after we lost to Boise and that he should be fired after losing at home to Cal.

But I don't blame you for forgetting which shitty loss got me started. So many to choose from...
When you have to bring up the financial burden of firing the coach as a reason to keep him, you have the wrong coach.

Any coach scared away by the firing of the loser before him is a pussy and a loser, so WDWHA. Expectations are not optional.

Now you're calling for 9 wins in the "decisive" year 3 of the Petersen era.

Considering we? should have had that win total in years 1 AND 2, we should just fucking end it now and move on. Incremental progress is for doogs and pool boys.
10-8 his first 18 games??? First off, that's awful. But are you seriously bragging about the 6 gimme OOC games? Notice how he lost to the only decent OOC opponent on that list (Boise)? And he has zero quality conference wins to speak of.

Petersen's career highlight at UW is beating Sark hours before he hit rock bottom. Barely.

    Truly inspiring stuff that is...

I wasn't predicting Petersen would get fired. I WANT him fired, because he sucks.

Hard to fathom how you could be so dense as to misunderstand that.

Yes, all I have been saying is that Chicken Littles should step away from the keyboard and take a long walk to gain some perspective. If they can't handle the twists and turns, maybe the volatile college game isn't for them (insert faggoty wink).

And since, according to Tommie, Petersen sucks so much, I do wonder what he predicts for CP's 2016 conference record. 3-6? 4-5? Something worse?

    image

Petersen might suck. He might be decent.

At this point we can rule out him being an all time great Urban Meyer type and a Willingham dumpster fire. Everything else is still on the table.

We better fucking win 10 games next year though.

  • HFNYHFNY Member Posts: 4,786 Standard Supporter
Yeah that's what I've been saying....that it was FS to want him fired 4 games into his 2nd season and it's still FS to want him fired now.

If he goes 3-6 in conference next year, you'd have a great case for him being fired. But do you really think he'll go 3-6 in conference next year?

You don't seem to understand the difference between expectations and predictions.

My expectation for Petersen in 2016 is at least 6-3 in-conference.

That's also my prediction. 9-3 regular season record with a shot at 10 wins in the bowl game that actually matters some.

And not wanting Petersen fired after the 4th game of his 2nd season doesn't make anyone a Doog. It actually makes them not sound like an knee-jerk idiot.

Oh Tommie, there you go again. You know, it's ok to admit you were wrong....better that than being an idiot by sticking to PETERSEN SUCKS!!!!1@!!@1 simply because you said it earlier in the year.

    I haven't been wrong.

I wasn't predicting Petersen would get fired. I WANT him fired, because he sucks.

Hard to fathom how you could be so dense as to misunderstand that.
Pete needs to win the North or GTFO.

Instead he will be in the 5-4 Sark sweet spot, and you doogs will all hail it as progress as we finish 3rd in the North.

You don't seem to understand the difference between expectations and predictions.

There's absolutely no reason for this UW team not to win 10 games next year.

Amazing that a TBS thread got completely threadjacked by @ThomasFremont into a bitch about Pete thread. Good thing we have 8 full months until our next game and 9 full months until our next game that really matters.

    Offseason is best season ;)

Firing Petersen after 1 and a half seasons of coaching is completely rational and makes sense for a number of reasons. Middling programs all over the country fire their coaches after one year of getting similar results in their first year, and in every case, they win the NC the following year with their brand new coach and players.

Even more programs just hang on to their loser coach and muddle around in mediocrity, too afraid to make a move and demand championship football.

    No thanks.

The point is you can't judge if a coach is muddling around in mediocrity just 4 games into his 2nd year unless it's an absolute dumpster fire.

And if you were demanding championship football for 2015, you're even more untethered to this earth than I thought you were. 2015 was all about taking the lumps early by going young at critical positions and then improving as the season went on to still make a bowl.

Beyond 2015 is a different matter though. It's tough to see the talent, experience, depth, and balance coming back and not think they will have a legitimate shot at competing for a Pac-12 championship the next two seasons.

If you're a doog and you are
Where teams usually get rolled by sec teams is in the trenches. The southeastern United States just has a lot of big, fat athletic people.

However, we actually might matchup well, at least on the defensive side as I think Qualls, Gaines and Vea can hold their own. Victor and Bierra would also show up well. Not so sure about Mathis.

I think our your O-line would get beaten up this year. McGary, Adams, Shelton and Kirkland may develop into something special, but right now they would get eaten by a quality sec D-line.

I also think our corners are decent (despite Gardenhire and Jones' performance in the Dallas Whatever Bowel). However, they're not physical enough to manhandle sec WRs or come up and enforce the run against large sec RBs. Kevin King and Buddha could probably do well.

History has proven that average QBs can win championships in the sec, so I think Brownsocks would be fine.

Without question, our biggest weakness against the redneck inbred schools is our so-called WRs. sec corners would feast on the pussies that we have out wide. Browning would have no open receivers the entire game. It would be embarrassing.
