    I'm fairly sure it was founded on enlightenment principles, not on the notion that all cultures should be tolerated and encouraged. One of the blessings talked about in the Federalist papers is that everyone speaks English and that is important to founding a unified country.
    That's why English is our national language in the constitution and our constitution forbid freedom of religion.

    The nation wasn't founded on multiculturalism. It was founded on freedom, of which you are free to argue that multiculturalism is a natural extension. But I think you'll find it difficult to get more than 3/5 of the African Americans of that day to agree with you.
