You could ask the same thing of the media. Hey, 20,000 Africans got murdered today. Um, ok, um, let's do a 10 second spot on it before we go for wall to wall Paris coverage for the next 48 hours.

Is it really possible to evenly weigh all of the tragedies which happen around the world? Do the people complaining about Beirut not having new coverage even know what happened there, or that 140 people were killed in Kenya a day later.

    This.

I've read a lot of comments like Derek's in the days since the Paris bombings, and while I think he and the "Don't Just Pray for Paris/Pray for the World" poem raise extremely good points, we have to remember people only have so much mental bandwidth.

What is a "fair amount" of coverage to give anything? For example, do bombing victims deserve more coverage than say, natural disaster victims? School shootings? How about people dying of hunger? Or heart disease? (I don't have an answer to that myself, just asking the question.)

That's part of it of course, but the biggest reason is that what's happening in Uganda could never happen here. But people/media/Mericans give such a shit about France because if it can happen to them it can happen here. And probably will, before much longer.

Because they aren't Muslims doing the killing.

Because as a Western culture and European player, France is relevant to our interests... sub-Saharan Africa? Not so much.

Our society has changed so much so fast, and become so soft, I don't think you can say that a Uganda situation could never happen here given enough time.

(I went and dug up this quote from Michael Savage)

"Why would any government bring in unvetted Muslim immigrants at a time like this? It would seem that only an insane prince would do this to his country. But Obama is not insane. He’s stoned. He’s stoned on the orthodoxy of the progressive left. Obama and his supporters are drunk on their ideology. They think they’re going to create a progressive utopia by continuing their attack on all Western values.

"This is precisely how great civilizations of the past declined and eventually fell. They rejected the values that made them great and degenerated into narcissism and selfishness. They kept on partying until they were too weak to defend themselves. Then, the unthinkable happened. They fell."

Holy shit. You not only listen to Michael Savage, you believe his bullshit. And one step further, you cared enough about something he said that you searched to actually find the quote.

It's sad how far you've fallen.

Perhaps though I still think it's a longshot. But outrage isn't so much about what can/will happen it's about what people think can and will happen, and only a small percentage are the least bit concerned about a Uganda type situation here while a much larger percentage are concerned about ISIS sponsored terrorist attacks here.
