I don't know if it's because they underachieved, or the new g.m. wants his own guy in there, or abundance.
It's the loser Mariners so it doesn't seem to matter who's managing.

Out of the four major sports baseball managers are by far the least important. NL managers have some value, because they have to manage a bullpen within the batting lineup, but in the AL, you have a DH. Basically, AL managers manage egos and call the occassional bunt, steal, or hit and run. Other than that, it's about 3 hours of ball scratching. General Managers are the critical piece, and hopefully, they found a good one. However, it's the Mariners, so probably not.

Totally agree, baseball managers don't have much of an effect on games. Mariners still have the same ownership, so the GM still sucks.
-
I liked Lloyd but it really is pretty irrelevant. Managers don't build the farm system which is the ultimate key to success in the MLB. Jack Z was the worst at that so I don't see how this GM could be a downgrade.

The GM didn't get the memo that blicks get 4 years no matter how shitty they are

The point here is that even Lou fucking Piniella himself couldn't lead this shit tier franchise to a World Series appearance.DerekJohnson said:

Thanks for proving the fire marshall's point. it does not matter who manages the loser Mariners. They won't win. Ever.DerekJohnson said:

But he did win. The Fire Marshall's point was the Mariners would be losers no matter what. You and Boobs are doing some mega pressing this morning. Quite honestly, it's sad to see how far the two of you have fallen.PurpleJ said:

"You can't flag a moderator's post, even when he thinks winning a regular season championship matters in MLB."

What did he win with the Mariners? Not even an ALCS. His point was that it doesn't matter who manages them. They will lose. He's right.DerekJohnson said:

The Tampa Bay Rays and Arizona Diamondbacks had a good laugh over this thread.

Maybe not. But even if he does build the farm system the ownership will go all in at some point, because the previous season they were almost .500 and so close! Then you will see top prospects traded for bullshit. At any rate, they are fucked either way.CuntWaffle said:I liked Lloyd but it really is pretty irrelevant. People give Oregon shit for losing two title games, the Mariners haven't even made it to one.DerekJohnson said:PurpleJ said:

They're a loser, dysfunctional franchise until proven otherwise. A couple of 85 win seasons don't change that. I got excited during the 2009-2010 offseason because I'm FS, plus I don't follow baseball half as closely as football over the past 10-12 years.DerekJohnson said:

It's funny, because I actually believed in them back then. The turning poont was the '03 trade deadline when they didn't do anything to get themselves over the hump.PurpleJ said:

At some point we as Mariner fans need to accept that we have been a bad franchise for a long time now and that it's going to take a lot of patience and work to get back to where we once were.Fire_Marshall_Bill said:
