Jim Lambright : Don James :: Slingblade : Skip Belly

When James left, Lambright was promoted from coordinator to HC and thus began the slow decline of UW football that now 17 years later is still striving for similar levels of Don James era success after hitting the absolute rock bottom under Tye Willingham, the always precious and memorable 0-12 season.
When kelly left oregon, also under the NCAA violations, oregon followed the same thinking UW used when Lambright was named head coach. What better way to keep the train rolling and maintain continuity in the program than to hire from within. Who better to keep the same system in place then someone who's already intimate with it. Sounds logical. Well sure if you can ignore the impact the head chef had on the success to begin with. To assume someone else can cook up the same ingredients in the same special way simply because they worked in the same kitchen is fatally flawed. UW painfully found that out and almost two decades later are still a shell of what they were under James.
Thankfully the UO didn't learn from UW's mistake, either out of their own stubborn hubris or they were caught off guard and reacted too quickly without studying history. Many oregon fans are starting to realize fortunes can change just that quickly and nobody is immune. Make one bad step when you're on top of the mountain and it can lead to a mighty fall.

Dennis Erickson left Oregon State after the 2001 season just ahead of the posse. Oregon State went back to Mike Reilly thinking that the guy who couldn't win as much as Erickson before would win as much as Erickson the 2nd time
Oregon State went back to being nothing which has been their sad lot in life since 1964 -
You have no idea the damage that
RNDJsanctions did! -
I think what Race is trying to say is, FO, G.RaceBannon said:Dennis Erickson left Oregon State after the 2001 season just ahead of the posse. Oregon State went back to Mike Reilly thinking that the guy who couldn't win as much as Erickson before would win as much as Erickson the 2nd time

maybe take some time off to get some perspective, race.
thanks. -
Oregon only pulls off the 20 year UW decline by making a series of poor hires over the next 20 years.

@RaceBannon either missed the poont entirely or just wanted to go hard on the beav.
Riley wasn't an assistant for Erickson. -
Wait until Oregon gets their own Gilby and Ty in there!

Wake me up when Oregon hires Gerberding's body.

Oregon skipped a generation, Helfrich is Neu. Next up is a former Oregon guy from the Bellotti era, and when that ends in disaster they'll go for a guy that upper campus likes, perhaps David Shaw after he's run out of Stanford.
