2013 coaching hires

Petersen, Franklin and Strong were all seen as 'homerun' hires going into last season.

What the fuck happened?

Petersen has the program moving in the right direction ... although there are a few outstanding items to that that we need to watch play out during the course of the year.

Strong is still a good coach but inherited a dumpster fire at Texas with no QB in place. It's hard for me not to think that there aren't some other circumstances going on there. I'm looking forward to watching them in person in early October.

Looking to me like Franklin is a bit overrated and lived off of his "look at what he did at Vanderbilt" and ran for the hills. Can't imagine another 6-6 caliber season at Penn State is going to go over well.

I'm not sure I would have called Strong a home-run hire when he wasn't their first choice. Saban was their home-run hire and first choice before Mora. I like the Franklin hire better than the Strong hire.

It's not going to end well for Strong.

I'm still wait and see on Strong. I get it that he did some nice things at Louisville, but Texas has so many inherent advantages than other schools (own network, recruiting, etc.) that it's hard to not see a decent coach come in right away and dominate. It's like not being a 10 win coach at USC. If you aren't winning 10 games year after year at USC without sanctions than you are an average at best coach.

Yup. Dumping an OC after game 1 of season 2. Desperation.

This will give belly laughs in the HFPod studios - but that Cal game is key. If Strong loses that game Texas likely starts the season 1-5. Goodnight.

I think Cal wins that game rather easily and heads into Seattle ranked.

I heard Sark was a home run hire in 2013. Just what I'm hearing, so don't twist.
