and a few on Petersen. Probably a 10-1 ratio.
Isn't Petersen the architect and Smith the construction
manager? How does the building guy put together
a nice building from a crappy set of plans? I know
I belong in the special eddie class but maybe you
folks can edicate me on organizational structure.
I didn't realize the OC was higher placed than the head coach.

Quite honestly, most of the Doogs here are afraid to admit the reality that the head coach is responsible for this mess.
-
Petersen is supposedly more hands off with his coaches, although he certainly helps plan the offense. Smith is also the one calling the plays. And since Petersen had a good offense as the OC of Boise and as head-coach with both Zebransky and Moore, I think a lot of people are thinking it is the play calling and the OC. Although maybe Pete just lost his touch and the planning sucks as well. Or abundance.whuggy said:So many comments ripping Jonathan Smith

Spot on. I think collectively everyone needs it to be Smiff's fault or we have to come to the Realization that if Petersen is the one fucking this up this program is going to be shitty to mediocre until the end of time.TierbsHsotBoobs said:Quite honestly, most of the Doogs here are afraid to admit the reality that the head coach is responsible for this mess.

Part of it is Petersen's resume and record, which is still really solid, whereas Smith has a crap resume.

with his coaches. Maybe that's okay with a highly
established, successful OC but certainly J. Smith
wouldn't fit that category. Ok the play calling ain't
pretty but to me it's more fundamental. This has to
be the most uncreative running scheme ever.
Absolutely no deception or mis-direction to keep the defence
guessing. DC's must be licking their chops to play against this
offense. To make matters worse, it looks like a pass first offense
when it should be exactly the opposite. That's on Petersen. -

performance, Petersen is ultimately responsible.
But you're welcome to keep on doogin if you

Why do you say it is pass first? I don't know enough to say if the run scheming is bad, but they ran 22 times and were throwing more in the second half because they were down by 16 points. I am not sure it is really a pass first offense, although it may be a crappy run first offense.whuggy said:

I'm terrified it's Peterman. But as I said in another thread, I do have hope because we know Peterman's been very hands on with the special teams and they look better than they have in 20 years. That punt return and put block give me a shred of hope that Peterman is who we thought he was. But the offense makes me want him to DIAFF. At this poont all I can do is hope and pray it really is the assistant for once and things get corrected quickly. If it's Peterman we might as well just shut down the fucking program.

It's been revealing to see Dawg fans hating on Smith. BSU fans had the very same hatred for Robert Prince. The common denominator is Coach Pete's 2013-present offense. It's not what made him great.

Wasn't Pete's 2013 offense a bunch of hurry up crap? I don't remember him doing all of the pre-snap shifts. That stuff is all from earlier (I noticed Harrisin's offense was doing it too).LocalKineBronco said:It's been revealing to see Dawg fans hating on Smith. Yeah, 2013 was baaaad. I don't think the TEs or RBs made a single shift all year. The 2015 version in Seattle isn't great, but it's an improvement from the pilot version.Hippopeteamus said:

Listen shit dick, the only obsession going on around here is you and this site. Most guys post here and there, you post here in scary fashion. Gives u a reason to pound after a day at the HHB office. A long article on Petersen's offense http://smartfootball.com/gameplanning/breaking-down-boise-how-the-broncos-use-leverage-numbers-and-grass-to-gash-the-opposition
Yes it has probably changed a bit since, but the principle remain the same. And Smith is a student of Petersen so he probably just applies the scheme. What is true is that he calls the plays and may well suck at this.
Petersen's scheme seems pretty complicated and relies on a lot of preparation to know how to attack the other team every week. It doesn't have a clear identity and tells the other team "now defend that identity". No, as the article says, it takes what the defense is giving them.
Maybe other teams have figured out how to defend that? Maybe you need a certain type of players to assimilate the play book and we don't have them yet? A Dwayne Washington for example doesn't fit this philosophy, in my opinion. -
Used to ntd,bb to that article once a week or so, even before we hired Pete.The_Undertaker said:A long article on Petersen's offense http://smartfootball.com/gameplanning/breaking-down-boise-how-the-broncos-use-leverage-numbers-and-grass-to-gash-the-opposition

Peterman is a fucking processes guy ...
My fear is he has to have everything perfect ... or he freezes.
Somethings not right with this fucking offense. 29 yards fucking rushing.
Jesus Christ. The Gawd Damn offense was shut out ... the entire game. And yet nothing changed.
It's pretty fucking bad when the announcers start talking about the ghosts of Boise coaches past ... not a fucking one ... not one ... has been successful since leaving the blue field. -
I'm just holding onto any Doog I have left because of 92-12, BCS wins, COY honors etc. If this was a first time head coach doing this shit I'd be on whatever the opposite of cloud nine is.
Shit is frustrating though.
O'Doyle rules.
