Immigrants from Europe had to pass through Ellis Island. We knew who they were before they left the island. Then we had a moratorium. Then we had standards to bring in folks who would bring something to the country. The waves at the turn of the century assimilated. We didn't have hyphen Americans.
The answer to Mexico is to make it the 51st state and pay for it with their oil and natural gas. Mexico could have tons of money if they weren't so corrupt. The people suffer from a shitty government who would steal any aid we sent there.
