Everyone call it a day. Romar gets his money, uw gets a new coach.
Holy shit this is embarrassing

It'll be the same shit over and over again.
He'll get fired but it'll be way too late. Pussies like Woodward never fire anyone until they've fired themselves.
I hope anyone who watched more than 30 minutes of Romarball this year finds a pair of chocolate nuts to gargle and a Grinolds skin banana to suck on nice and deep. -
I understood(but obviously don't agree) with the stance of giving him one more year. Now that his entire base is transferring, can't we finally call a spade a spade(don't twist) and move the fuck on?CheersWestDawg said:It'll be the same shit over and over again.

He has missed the tourney 4 years in a row, and now it's locked in that he'll miss it 5 years in a row. Why not just start over now? -
Isn't there a thread talking about the basketball team actually being good?

Should've got canned four years ago when we didn't make the tourney with Wroten and Ross.
Ever since then, things went from bad to shit in a fucking hurry.
All these transfers would make me excited if I actually thought Woodward had the sack to really go after a guy like Archie Miller or Shaka Smart, but these past four years (and now the fucking apparent continuation) has killed any new height/momentum the program once reached.
Fucking bullshit.

Fuck you. Just needed more 7ft drug dealers.greenblood said:Isn't there a thread talking about the basketball team actually being good?

This is where it gets stupid in a hurry ...
Basically everybody that is returning either sucks or is about to be a senior with really limited options. Any decent player on this roster will be a frosh ... and hard to hold frosh accountable when there's no threat of losing playing time. And let's be honest, based on what we saw with Romar in how he handled Wroten, hard to believe that he'll be a drill sergeant regarding the little parts of the game.
Even if Romar manages to pull off an 11-7 conference team that makes the NCAAs and bows out in the First Round, the damage has already been done - has it not? He's lost one of his two main recruiters and let's be honest, it's going to be a massive challenge for him to hire a solid replacement (and this doesn't even account for whether anybody else on his staff looks at the current situation, gets a better offer, and leaves town - I'm looking at Chillious). His best player just said that he wants to keep playing college hoops, but not for the current coach. You'd have to think that the odds of landing a solid class for 2016 just went up in smoke.
Moreover, if the team has any success next year due to the frosh (particularly Murray), he's going to go pro immediately. If they don't and Romar gets fired, there's a good chance that you get guys to either jump to the pro's or seriously consider transferring. Either way, you've positioned your next coach to walk into an ugly situation with a limited roster and probably a lack of recruits. It'd basically be where Utah was when Krystowiak took over.
By taking too long to fire Romar and instead holding on until the bitter end, Woodward has basically mortgaged perhaps 1 slightly above mediocre year of basketball for probably 2-3 really shitty years at minimum to follow. While I know a certain nacho enthusiast was busy criticizing people today for comparing Romar to Tyrone, but the similarity in the situations will be that the coaching job is going to be a toxic dumpster fire for any legit coach and instead the hire will need to be someone comparable to Seven in that they are young, with limited experience, a decent sized name, and who is looking at the job as a stepping stone to a bigger job as soon as possible (think a Josh Pastner type sitting on somebody's bench right now). Perhaps Woody is thinking he got lucky once by going that route and getting a supposed upgrade in Petersen (until he proves that he's unquestionably the man, which most of us think he is, but still ...) after Seven left that he can do it again in hoops. But that's a dangerous shell game. And let's be honest, the allure of coaching the UW football program has a lot more behind it than the UW hoops program.
The good news for those of us that love basketball is that we'll be able to continue to watch hoops by rooting for the teams that play a style that we love, etc. instead of living and dying by UW hoops. The reality is that the power brokers of the program sold their soul to Romar and as a result of their misguided priorities are going to be stuck picking up the pieces of a program that will be in shambles by the time that they are ready to cut bait and enjoy their cocktails while playing golf in Walla Walla or other remote locations. -
Romar's not getting fired next year...nobody expects him to be able to win with all freshmen and most doogcockgobblers still love "good guy" Romar who doesn't play shady games or run off players and live off of transfers like uNike, even though he's going to hire a recruits father and is going after a ton of transfers to fill the gaps from all the players that are leaving.
Then the next season when the fab five is sophomore's they are going to improve a little bit, so you still can't fire him because they showed improvement.

No, but some people still like the Mariners on that bored. BTW, next Friday is Beard Hat Night, always a crowd pleaser. The season should be completely over by then.greenblood said:Isn't there a thread talking about the basketball team actually being good?

Doogs are in full-on excuse mode. Acting like your top assistant, best player and likely a few others transferring is "good for the program" and "we need a refresh. Start all over." What the flying fuck? Isn't that supposedly the reason that you can't fire Romar in the first place?
This program will be an absolute shitshow for 5+ years. You start all over with a coach who is a dead man walking. Good coaches and smart players will avoid it like the plague. Suck for 2 years, get fired, hire a new coach only to implode the program again. Woodward is a fucking pussy. -
Screw you guys. You can't win when you barely have enough players to field a team. Romar will be a profile in courage next year - just because he stayed.

Quit trying to skew the facts, Chavez. Your schtick is getting old. If you've spoken to any self-respecting doog, you would know that it's only been 3 years of missing the tournament (as if that would make a fucking difference in the scheme of things, anyway). 2012 doesn't count...for two reasons. The first being that Romar is too nice of a guy and didn't pay off the selection committee like Sean Miller and Dana Altman. And the other reason 2012 doesn't count, which relates to the first, is because Romar won the pac-12 regular season title and even in the most dreckiest of some pretty fucking drecky seasons for the pac12, UW was robbed. Nevermind they went 7-5 OOC, had ZERO quality wins all year, only played 2 ranked teams, lost to 2nd place Cal at home in their only meeting, and lost as a 1 seed to 8/9 Oregon State when they knew they had to win to get in...all with 2 first-rounders in that year's draft and and another future first rounder who averaged 14 a game that year. So just like Sark's first 3 seasons didn't count, Romar's only missed the tourney 3 years in a row. And if it wasn't for fucking "slippage", Romar would be sitting on a 7 year streak of tournament appearances.FreeChavez said:

What we really need to do is show recruits we are dedicated to St. Romar and give him an extension past 2021. How is he supposed to recruit if the kids don't even know if he'll have a CONTRACT1!!!!11!! 2 years after they graduate?
