Unwatched Shows with Universal Acclaim

Inspired by that bullshit Empire thread, I was thinking about what I should watch for the next 16 hours and it hit me that I should detail an off top list of the shows i've heard nothing but rave reviews, but can't seem to pull the trigger on starting. Perhaps all you Ebert & Roepers (75k, Rip) can point me in the right direction.
Haven't Seen:
Cheers
The West Wing
The Newsroom
House of Cards
Six Feet Under
Shameless
The X-files
Girls
Veep
The Americans
Masters of Sex
Downton Abby
EMPIRE (LOL)
OZ
MASH
The Blacklist
Nip/Tuck
The Tudors
Sex in the City
Nurse Jackie
These shows have all been around a couple seasons or more, which make the investment of catching up pretty difficult. Especially for something like Cheers, where you know it's going to consume a fuck load of your time for a 1980s sitcom, but I hear it might be the best comedy ever.

House of Cards and Downton Abbey are the only great shows on this list.

I recently bingewatched The Wire, after hearing about it for 10 years. I have made it through 4 seasons, which are supposeabley the best seasons.
If Fonzie were gay, black, and homeless, he would be Omar. -
I've seen a ton of TV. Watched the Wire in its entirety and loved it. Final Season is a bit of a drag.RavennaDawg said:I recently bingewatched The Wire, after hearing about it for 10 years. I have made it through 4 seasons, which are supposeabley the best seasons.

I feel like Vikings gets zero respect, yet it's the only show I give enough of a shit to watch every week.
-
The fucking Blacklist?!? Are you kidding me?? Jesus H Lockner. Sex in the City?
And your lack of Ginnifer Godwin's pokies on Big Love leaves me questioning your sexual preference.
Entourage, Band of Brothers, Friday Night Lights. All better than the chick shit on your list. Even if you're homo - there are hot dudes on those shows, too.
Blacklist. Christ.
-
@PurpleThrobber I've seen Entourage, Band of Brothers and FNL. Maybe my list is so homo because it's shit i haven't seen yet? I'm just basing it off what I've read and heard in my experience as Top shows.
@haie I'm completely up to date on Vikings, great show. -
Shameless is pretty good, season 1 of Newsroom was okay then it went full retard. Six feet under was just on the air to long. First couple seasons were good then it got tedious and painful but the finale was well done.
-
Cheers is good, not great. I was a kid and young teen for it so the humor whooshed (Rofl) me at the time. As an adult and a binge drinker, it's understandable. I'm sure it's on TV Land, Nick at Night, MeTV or something.
House of Cards is good. The first season is really good.
Newsroom is OK. They give too much time for sappy office romances and the writers get too cute with the one liners.
I watched a few SexCitys years ago. For a womyn's show, not bad. At the time I had this bi woman roommate that always watched it (would have hit, nice rack). I haven't seen any of the rest. -
House of Cards - Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are badasses. Usually.
Six Feet Under - Surprised me, put it off for years but actually liked the show.
Shameless - naked Emmy Rossum
The Americans - cold war espionage, 80's music, & occasionally Keri Russel's naked butt appears.
Masters of Sex - naked Lizzie Caplan
The Tudors - naked Natalie Dormer (and quite a few others) -

Empire
You know you want to -
It's important to have a working knowledge of Cheers ... even though it took place in the 80s I've never felt that the show was per se a period piece that you couldn't watch today and feel like you were missing too many inside jokes as long as you have a bit of a working knowledge of the 80s.

Veep is hilarious.

I'm currently vested in NYPD Blue and Scandal.Doogles said:It's sunday, my laziest day. The day I flip a coin on continuing the bender or chewing B vitamins to prepare for monday.

Haven't Seen:
Cheers - Not an investment, but worth watching as you do shit like laundry folding
The West Wing - Fuck ... serious?
The Newsroom - No idea
House of Cards - Kick ass ... It's like crack once you start, you can't stop
Six Feet Under - Good show, great ending
Shameless - no clue
The X-files - Weird
Girls - Odd, but like a train wreck ... you watch but not sure why
Veep - Never saw
The Americans - Great show
Masters of Sex - Hear it is good
Downton Abby - If you're a chic
EMPIRE (LOL) - Blacks
OZ - Male prison rape, lots of violence, but a good show, until it isn't. Jumps the shark real quick
MASH - 70's
The Blacklist - Really?
Nip/Tuck - Terrible
The Tudors - Boring
Sex in the City - for gays and women
Nurse Jackie - huh?

Scandal is good, until it isn't.
Game of Thrones is good too.
As is Boardwalk Empire. -
Finished Boardwalk, it was good but a little overrated. Super Bleak and it was one of those historical fictions where the most interesting characters were the fake ones and there bloodshed was ultimately expected and predictable because it was so by the book.topdawgnc said:

I've read the GoT books (just had to tell the world) so definitely all over that show. -
My girlfriend loves scandal, but won't watch it with me in the room anymore because I can't stop laughing.topdawgnc said:

Boardwalk is good. I watched the pilot for Scandal but nothing in it convinced me to watch the second episode.
-
This group should watch In Therapy.
-
Borgias delivers murder, deceit and tittays.
The Jeremy Irons/Showtime version not the cheap knockoff.
