Pretty much all of those guys played during the Cyler Miles series.

Which is fucking stupid. I think it's idiotic to burn a chance to redshirt Brostek when there was absolutely no necessity to play him. I also read/heard that Sark said there is a good chance Coleman Shelton will play this year, which is also ridiculous. I don't give a shit how good that kid is, there's no reason for him to be higher than 6th in line to play tackle behind Hatchie, Riva, Charles, Atoe, and Eldrenkamp. Seeing Brostek come into the game Saturday took a little bit of the luster off of that win for me, and I'll lose my shit if Shelton plays for any reason other than there being no other healthy options to play tackle. We started to see a little bit of the benefits of playing older, redshirted OL on Saturday. Not that the OL was outstanding, but they were pretty decent.
I wouldn't say it took the luster off the win, but when I saw Brostek in there, I did think, ugh, why? We could have put in someone else, and I don't really see the point of playing him.

I totally agree on Shelton and it shocked me to hear Sark might play him this year. All the guys you named are playing before him at tackle. It is interesting to note, that the coaches were going to greyshirt Coleman before a spot opened up. Makes me wonder about the evaluation when a few weeks later, he is the freshman that is furthest along.

I have always been somewhat critical of Sark's willingness to throw freshmen to the fire. For Shaq, ASJ, Kasen, even Sankey, it made sense, but we have wasted some guys. I would love to have Kevin Smith as a 5th year senior next year, and we already miss Tokalahi this year. Ducre is another guy that we will probably miss next year, and he wasn't ready in 2010 to play. I don't get why Darrell Daniels is playing when he is about our 8th or 9th best WR. Why waste a guy when he isn't actually ready when they will be much better players when they are 5th year seniors?

That's why I said it took a little bit of the luster off. I was feeling pretty awesome, and then when I saw Brostek in, my reaction was pretty much the same as yours. I'm with you though, I don't get Sark's rationale for playing certain frosh. Some guys are so good that there's no debate, but if playing a kid isn't going to be the difference between winning and losing, why the hell do it? I can kind of understand playing Daniels on ST, because physically he's ready, which can keep some of our starters on D from playing ST. It's the kids who aren't physically there yet that make no sense. Ducre is a perfect example of that. He looks like he's really improved, and if he was coming back next year, we might have the best corner tandem in the country. Hope those few plays in 2010 were worth it.

On the other hand, they could be playing him because he sucks and they don't want to waste a year of eligibility on him. I know he was the "would have been a 5 star if he was from California" in the minds of many purple shaded fans but he played in a high school league in high school that was comparable to a middle school league here, he looked absolutely terrible last year, and the coaches had nothing good to say about him during camp.
