Rece Davis to host College GameDay

Chris Fowler is taking over Brent Musburger's position on Saturday Night Football with Musburger moving to retirement the SEC Network (wait, aren't those the same thing?).

With Fowler gone, they're promoting Davis from Thursday Night Football to host of College GameDay. Not sure who is going to take over for the spot vacated by Davis for Thursday Night Football, but they might bump another play-by-play like Joe Tessitore or hire someone from outside.

Anyway, the main takeaway of the article is that this is the first time I realized that Chris Fowler and Rece Davis aren't the same person.

    I didn't like the combo of Davis, Palmer and Pollack on broadcasts...casual conversation style. Davis could host the PBA on Sunday afternoons and not miss a beat.

    Why does ESPN think Pollack adds value to Gameday?

    Yeah I can't stand listening to him talk. He took over the ESPN College Football podcast this season but I couldn't get through a full episode of his nasally delivery. Hopefully this means someone else will be doing the podcast.

    I'd like to see ESPN pluck Neu from Pac-12 Network purgatory, he seems perfect for that type of job and tends to represent the Pac pretty well.

    I really like both Davis and Fowler. I don't think there's anybody in broadcasting that facilitates discussion better than Fowler. Davis sometimes tends to throw out his opinions more than he should.

    Agree. Especially on the podcast he does with Maisel, which is pretty good. I always thought its him trying to ditch his Alabama accent.

    I can't watch Gameday anymore. It's too corny, the analysis is shit, and it's one long product commercial. The only thing they got going is the crowd signs. They've stepped it up.

    I don't think it will survive with Davis, Howard, Pollock, and whoever else. The current ESPN is incapable of putting together a quality show. It's way too commercial (Disney) nowadays.

    The only shows I watch on ESPN anymore is the occassional Sportscenter, and mostly all of the 30 for 30 films. I have to say that the 30 for 30 shows are awesome, and probably the best productions put forth by ESPN in a very long time.

    Sportscenter is terrible. 30 for 30 is good. E:60 can be decent when they don't go full Rinaldi.

    Woody Paige is funny at times. plaschke annoys the hell out of me. The rest are meh.

    I am old enough to remember when BSPN actually ran sports like 12-15 hours a day. They would have stuff like sailing, not dumbass talking head shows.

    I can also remember getting the audio on Playboy and Spice (I think) but a scrambled screen. Frustrating and mildly entertaining at the same time with the women's groans.
