Can't wait to see Chico in Purple. What incoming frosh are you looking forward to seeing?

After covering HS football in WA for UTR in 2014, I'm excited to see what Chico McClatcher will contribute coming in and what kind time he can get right away, if any. Although I'm also excited about Joyner and Gaskin, too, Chico was hands down the most electric football player that I saw in 2014. People talk about his speed, but his lateral quickness, and ankle breaking ability, as well as his gears (to get into full speed immediately) are the things that set him apart. If you haven't seen him live, or looked at his footage, there's a couple of links below of UTR spotlights on Chico this past season.

But, first check out the play at 3:20 in this clip of FW @ Newport State Quarterfinals game in which Chico pole vaults Knight defender, without a pole. (He was called for a penalty because you're not allowed to leap over a player who is standing up, only crouched down).

McClatcher has the most exciting highlights of any of them. No question about that. He's going to be fun to watch. I hope he lines up in the backfield. I see him as more of a running back that can shift out to the slot than a slot receiver.

Browning and Chico. That's all that matters. It's nice having an adult in charge.

Could be a real weapon and play right away. We need any boost in the running game we can get. He could also allow John Ross to concentrate on playing DB and get the same kind of player on the offensive side.

We need John Ross on O. I'm sorry, but you don't let someone with that ability to stretch the field go to waste. He should play defense because he is that athletic, but it's super frustrating getting minimal production out of him when he should be charles woodson.

I will be very excited to see Chico as a junior and senior.

IF he plays next year a a freshman, I expect to see some growing pains. In HS, he was so much more athletic than those next to him that he could always look to break the big play. That won't be the case anywhere close to as often in college. He'll probably try to go East/West a few times too often instead of North/South and pay dearly for it and learn some valuable (and painful) lessons.

That being said, finding a quick guy that can turn simple 3-5 yard plays into 7-10 yard plays with regularity will be a great security blanket for a QB.

A little unrelated, but that was one of the things that stood out the most to me in the Fotu Leiato film. When he had the ball in his hands, he got upfield quickly.

Chico's recruitment was so odd, I think I just haven't really processed him as a thing yet. He's a midget, obviously, but he also has dynamite in his socks.

The question remains if he's DAT Jr. or Hervé Villechaize in cleats.
@MrsPetersen and I had been on the theory that he was a silent commit to Petersen for a long time (like since May or something). Theory was that he committed to the staff and Petersen probably told him if he gets his grades in order they will accept his committment. I know he worked like crazy during the summer with school and never really talked about recruiting to any sites out there. Then basically he cancelled his Boise visit, went to UW and committed on the spot. I bet it was more showing Petersen that he had gotten the grades or something.

Anywho, player I am most excited for is Myles Gaskin.

I want to see the DL guys develop, Benning, Ricky (remember the last DL/TE from AZ?), Bryce Sterk and Scrempos.

He's not a frosh but I'm looking forward to seeing Zeke Turner. If he's around 6'2" 210 lbs by fall, he'd be a great asset as the 8th guy in the box (or near it) with BB as the deep safety in a Cover 3 or Man Cover 1.

I'll just say it. Chico is small and I'm not sure what position he will play. I hate the thought of a 5'5" wr. Maybe he can catch punts.

Why do you hate Darren Sproles?

I don't. But I do hate every other 5'5" failure of a football player. I would love to be wrong but I think it is more likely he has a fumbling issue and sees the field too early and ends his career at eastern or central.
If,he was,the next sproles I would think Oregon and more schools would have been all over him. He has been hyped since he was a soph.

He's Mario Bailey's height (maybe an inch shorter) and a lot heavier. Mario turned out pretty good, so the stature shouldn't have everyone doubtful about him. If he's got one-on-one on a quick/bubble screen, he's probably gonna break ankles. He played plenty from the slot his senior year to be comfy as a WR and has always showed great hands. I would think the #1 concern is what Tequilla said...Chico was so extremely superior and gifted compared to everyone else on the field that it was pretty easy for him most of the time. There won't be that gap in Pac12 competition. So, we'll see.

The creativity of posters on board to abide by Stalin's "keep it clean" edict is entertaining as heck. Even PL_SS is abiding.
