Movie Review: Boyhood

The film is shot over a 12-year period, an extraordinary method that allows the viewer to watch the characters grow and age as the film progresses. A remarkable feat that should be praised for its ingenuity and execution.
Pros: Accurate-feeling portrayal of life. The emotion and struggle of growing up feels real to the viewer, aided by the actual changes taking place by the actors over time. Ethan Hawke's best performance since Gattaca (Training Day was overrated).
Cons: No tits. Also, it's not a fast-paced, plot-driven movie, so you are not on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what happens next. But mainly, no tits.
Rating: Overall, pretty good. Wood not watch again. 3 out of 5 plungers

Watched a couple of classics over the weekend
King of New York 1990 Christopher Walken in his prime, Laurence Fishborne pre Boyz and lots of tits. Walken unloads a shot gun in David Caruso's face. 5 stars
Four Brothers 2005 - Mark Wahlberg, guns, fights, violence car chases you know, Wahlberg. 4 stars -
Wahlberg flicks tend to be good for the most part. Can't think of a single one that was shitty offhand.

Training Day was the shit. Don't ever knock that movie. Chess, not checkers. And Eva Mendes has some nice knockers.

The movie was good, but I was specifically referring to Hawke's performance. Anyone can pretend to be on PCP for 8 hours.PurpleJ said:Training Day was the shit. Don't ever knock that movie. Chess, not checkers. And Eva Mendes has some nice knockers.

Anchor Man 2: The shittiest movie ever made

It wasn't good, but in a world with 6 fast and the furiouses (furiori?), it's not the shittiest.oregonblitzkrieg said:Anchor Man 2: The shittiest movie ever made

I like some of those. the last one was pretty entertaining. However Anchorman 2 was a total drekfest. On it's own merit you could ask yourself "wtf, mother of god, why?" But knowing the first one was soooo fucking good made the second one even worse, just because you knew it came from a solid bloodline. But there was nothing unique and ground breaking in this movie. The crack scene was good but the fight scene at the end was beyond painful.dnc said:

The fight scene at the end was one of the biggest circle jerks gone wrong in Hollywood history. Inexcusable in every way.DeepSeaZ said:I like some of those. the last one was pretty entertaining. I never saw Anchorman 2. I knew the script.
Hope the same thing doesn't happen to Super Troopers 2. -

Boyhood was pretty good even if alcoholic husband #1 was played like a 1920s silent movie Nic Cage.
-
Will Ferrell is funny, but that movie was utter garbage. I'll take all 6 of the Fast and Furious flicks any day over that.dnc said:

Richard Linklater is definitely a craftsman, I'll have to check it out @Dardanus
But if you want obscure, check out his first film Slackers. Basically Austin, TX in '90 or '91. Fucking random as hell -
So, a Mike Damone?doogsinparadise said:

Boyhood was great. I think every parent that has had one of their own leave the nest will "get it."
Maybe not though if you are a piece of shit and/or your kid is a piece of shit.
