God I miss the good ole days. '86 Series was epic. I used to love the Series now its just nothing to me. I was a huge Giant fan back then but the game has changed so much. I don't begrudge players to make every nickel they can get but it has ruined the game. Decisions now are not based on who is better but who makes more. You can't just dump Chone because he makes too much but in reality he's a fucking cancer. NBA is the same way. Look at the Lakers this year. Just doesn't interest me anymore though I know I'm in the minority.

I don't know if money is fully the issue or not, but I do know what you mean. It seemed like the whole world was riding on that '86 series. One didn't dare miss any of it. These days, I don't think I've watched a World Series in 3-4 years. I know the steroid era really stuck in my craw, because I was a numbers junkie and baseball stats were very important. But when lead off hitters were suddenly hitting 50 home runs, the authenticity of the game vanished for me. The owners wanted to make the game more exciting so they looked the other way. Then when called on it, they feigned ignorance. Kind of like Dawgman.com. So fuck it.

Best leadoff guy of all time? Pre-Mariner Rickey Henderson. Guy was hands down the best in his prime....he unnerved even the best of the best starters and single handedly won the 89 series for Oakland over my beloved Giants. -
