Charles Mincy: "The Rose Bowl has been Hijacked"

Tradition as we know it has been stolen and may never return, writes former Husky Charles Mincy.

People forget that the Big 10 wasn't a regular opponent until after world War 2.
UW played Navy Bama Pittsburgh and USC in their first 4 trips -

Great article! Really well written.

Would have been awesomed had he not insulted the SEC.

Was that the year they dragged Bellotti to the final so he could continue lobbying and pouting for his left out team during commercial breaks? That was pathetic.TierbsHsotBoobs said:Welcome to January 3, 2002:

And when it was 35-0 Miami two minutes into the game the whole Oregon should have been here narrative lost a lot of steam.MisterEm said:

Sorry to interrupt your stroll down revisionist lane, but Nebbie losing to CU 62-36, then CU beating #5 Texas in the B12CCG before getting smoked by the Ducks in the Fiesta on January 1 was why Belotti was invited to the BCS title game by ABC two days later.RaceBannon said:

The media narrative positing that the Ducks would have given the Canes a better game that night was hardly a crazy notion as late as midway into the second quarter, since Nebraska was not only not built to come back, it had already proven itself incapable of doing so in Boulder.
Nebraska's appearance in the 2002 Rose Bowl made the organizers in Pasadena hate the BCS even more than it did in 1998. In fact, if you will recall. There were articles as late as 2005 as to whether the Big and Pac should just take the Rose Bowl back and give the rest of CFB their middle fingers.
That sentiment wasn't all about BCS 2002, but that lame ass Nebbie v. duh U Rose Bowl didn't help matters at all.

Trust me. There isn't a Husky fan alive who wouldn't have loved to see Oregon get Miami that night. There was no coming back. Miami played back ups the entire second half.Canard said:

Oregon would have got killed like Nebraska. Sorry to bring some reality to your dream -
Just as a curiosity, I went back and looked at the 01 Oregon schedule. No USC and no Washington, and they only blew out two teams. Style points may not count most years, but that Canes team was different and it wouldn't have been pretty. The only upside is Quooks like you wouldn't still be bitching about it.Canard said:

A telltale sign of a quook is bitching about 2001. Be thankful we played Colorado and not Miami. Now we have a good memory of that season (yes, I was at the Fiesta Bowl). If we had played Miami, the memories would...not be good. Any fan of the sport can see that once they put their biases aside. Problem is, quooks cannot.

Yes, Miami would have owned us had we played at the end of 2001. The BCS still sucked. They should have played that game in Miami or New Orleans.

It delayed your official Rose Bowl popping off several years. Even though it was the equivalent winning the Fiesta.AZDuck said:Yes, Miami would have owned us had we played at the end of 2001. The BCS still sucked. They should have played that game in Miami or New Orleans.

Aah the good old days before the big "pop off". Trolling the duck fans with the "Fiesta isn't the Rose" even though clearly they were the champs was a special kind of heaven during the dark ages.RaceBannon said:

Since this thread has both Charles Mincy and Rose Bowl in it, I have to note one of the greatest scenes of any game in the history of anything.
Rose Bowl against Iowa, when Mincy got his pick 6, the TV view showed him running towards the endzone, hand raised, right towards the Iowa corner of the stadium. The fan in front who sees what is coming and has the look of such abject depression is kind of awesome.
Someone should do a gif or something. -
If you get the playoffs up to a level where all conference champs are in the field, pair off the BIG10 and PAC in the Rose and go from there.
