The football coach is the highest paid PUBLIC employee in the state! Why are we raising tuition when the football coaches are making millions!!!' We can't fund our local schools but the state pays the coaches millions to coach a game!!!sarktastic said:They aren't the last. I predict many schools following suit. Football costs a lot of money to compete in when you're a perennial dreckfest with little hope and no fan support. We've never witnessed a coordinated attack, from the President of the United States on down, on the sport like we're seeing now, either. Lawsuits in the headlines are now commonplace. General budgets and Athletic budgets at small medium schools are being stretched thin yet fueled in part by a parabolic rise in student loan debt.
Student fan apathy has spiked across the country, too. Youth participation is falling. Middle schools and high schools are scaling back, de-emphasizing football and Friday Night Lights. Local/regional news coverage of youth to high school sports has evaporated.
Is UAB wrong? I don't know. Maybe they're just early to the party?
