Just Curious Duck Fans

I know Helfrich does a lot and you have a system in place, just don't know much about your offensive staff outside Greatwood and Campbell.
Thanks, and I hate you all.

Matt Lubick, our receivers coach. He turned the potential into absolute gold. It would be hard to find an overall receiving core better than Stanford, Allen, Carrington, and Marshall. It's probably top 5 overall in the country, and the best returning player Addison has been hurt all year.
-
And I thought you were going to ask the Ducks how they were feeling about potentially having to line up against TCU in the Rose Bowl.
-
I'd rather play Florida State in all honesty, but I think IF they beat Georgia Tech, they'll pass TCU, then it will be a scramble for #4. However, I think the committee already made the statement by TCU passing FSU. If TCU beats Iowa St., which they will, they will take over the #4 spot. I think that's right, because yes Baylor won the head-to-head, but it was a by a field goal, and TCU had dominiated 3 1/2 quarters of that game. Plus, Baylor needs to be made an example of. If you play a non Big 5 OOC, and insult it further by playing bad non Big 5 teams, you deserve to be left out.Tequilla said:And I thought you were going to ask the Ducks how they were feeling about potentially having to line up against TCU in the Rose Bowl.

I tend to agree that TCU moving to #3 is a positive statement and that TCU is in good shape barring that they don't have a repeat of what happened against Kansas. But in the grand scheme of things, TCU's body of work is pretty solid with only the Kansas game being one that you can take exception to.
I will be interested to see what happens if you get a situation of Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, and Kansas State win for what happens to the last spot.
The scenario that I worry the most about is what happens if Wisconsin and Kansas State wins. If that happens, then the SEC West would not only have the winner of the SEC, but LSU would have beat Wisconsin on a neutral field, Auburn would have beat Kansas State on the road, and Ole Miss would have beat Boise State on a neutral field. Hard in that position to not reconsider the power of a 2-loss Mississippi State team IMO. -
Which is why an 8 team playoff is needed. P5 conference champs, plus 3 at-large teams. Each conference is limited to two 2 team, and the MWC's of the world can get a spot if they finish in the Top 8 of the old BCS standings. Committee seeds 1-8 and picks the 3 OOC teams, with an auto-bid to a crap conference team that shocks everyone with an OOC that actually stands up by season's end. First round games are held at the higher seed, bowl structure stays the same as the current format.Tequilla said:I tend to agree that TCU moving to #3 is a positive statement and that TCU is in good shape barring that they don't have a repeat of what happened against Kansas. The problem with the 8 team is if conference champs get auto bids? Could you imagine if the 2011 PAC 12 champ game ended with a ucla win in that year? Would you like a 7-6 team in a playoff?PDXDuckFan said:

As an 8-seed on the road at #1? Sure. Either that, or give each P5 conference the ability to name their playoff auto, even if they lose in the CTG. We fall into "why even play the games, then" debates if that's the case.greenblood said:Could you imagine if the 2011 PAC 12 champ game ended with a ucla win in that year? I would like to see 10 teams in with #1 and #2 get byes the first week.
-
Lubick knows the plays, the team, loves the Ducks. It would be a natural progression. Frost is okay but if he leaves we will be fine. Feels good to say that.
-
I've been really impressed by the development of the offense this year, so I would hate to lose Frost now that things have really hit their stride.
-
Then what? You'd have six teams remaining after the first round. You'd have to seed six or 14 if you're going to give two first-round byes. Ten doesn't work.HuskyJW said:I would like to see 10 teams in with #1 and #2 get byes the first week.

They don't teach math at Montana State. HTHToiletSeat said:

I guess this was directed at me as a part of your new and weird obession with Montana and Gregg whatver, but HuskyJW was the person who posted the math failure, not me. You've gone off the deep end. It's fascinating.AZDuck said:

I hope Ohio State somehow beats Wisconsin without a QB and FSU wins. Does Ohio State leapfrog TCU? I doubt it because the committee knows Ohio State will likely get plungered with an inexperienced, third string QB. But it would be cool if they did.
-
Lubick. He's already better than Frost and the reason why Slingblade made him the co-coordinator.
-
Something else I just heard. Is it true that Helfrich, has taken over the play calling duties since the Arizona game?
-
Only reason that Ohio would get in is because of $$$ with the number of nut jobs that show up for their plungering ...RoadDawg55 said:I hope Ohio State somehow beats Wisconsin without a QB and FSU wins. TCU getting boosted to 3 tells me that the Committee is sending a message that if TCU takes care of their business the way that they need to this weekend, there's very little chance that they get pushed out of the Top 4. -

TCU at #3 is much more significant than Florida State at #4. Especially after Jeff Long said "Based on their body of work, Florida State is a solid #4". If that's the case, then TCU is in great shape. If there are no upsets in the top four, then the top four won't change. The only thing that might happen is some shuffling within the four, if some teams struggle more than others in their title games.
For instance, base don the last couple weeks, I could easily see Oregon jump Alabama if Alabama struggles again this week, and Oregon rolls Arizona. Or, possibly TCU and Florida State switching back, if Florida State rolls this week. Or Both.
I personally think Florida State will lose this week, and if Ohio State loses, I can easily see the possibility of GT leapfrogging Baylor. I think the committee is going to make a statement with Baylor. You can't schedule a winless SMU, Northwestern State, and Buffalo for your non conference and expect to make the top 4 with a loss. Baylor's schedule is a complete embarrassment, and if they make thew final 4, it will send a message that out of conference scheduling isn't important. Again, sorry Baylor, but you've got ZERO chance. -
One thing that is worth pointing out on both Baylor and TCU is that both played SMU.
I think that there's an interesting distinction here though:
TCU plays SMU every year - they are long standing rivals in the Metroplex and the scheduling of that game has little to do with padding your schedule with an easy win from a TCU perspective. That game gets played regardless of how good/bad TCU or SMU is.
In contrast, SMU and Baylor while being old SWC rivals, are not yearly rivals. Scheduling SMU for Baylor is a conscious decision where they are using Baylor as part of their C, C, F OOC scheduling.
Just food for thought. -
What you posted makes absolutely zero sense. I think I get what you mean, but I think you put teams in the wrong spot.Tequilla said:One thing that is worth pointing out on both Baylor and TCU is that both played Baylor.

Updated - I meant the game against SMU.

At least TCU also schedule Minnesota. Baylor went out of their way to schedule a shit OOC. They need to be penalized for it. This makes me also second guess having more than a four team playoff. Because if they increase the number, I think bullshit OOC schedules like this will become the norm.
-
I agree with that - you want to make sure that the regular season stays special. I would be against anything that expands the playoff to more than 6 (5 conference winners + 1 at-large).greenblood said:At least TCU also schedule Minnesota. TCU plays at Minnesota next year, then has home/home on the books with Arkansas, Ohio St, and Cal in the next 7 years. So at minimum, they're going to play 10 strong games each year. -
I don't like conference champs getting auto bids. Look back to 2011. What if UCLA had beaten Oregon. Would you want a 7-6 team in the playoff?Tequilla said:

If they win their conference, and are the #8 seed on the road at #1 for the quarterfinals, then why not? 3 at-large teams that didn't win conference titles would also be eligible. In terms of 2011, Oregon very well could have got in at 11-2. If not, don't lose games to 6-6 teams.greenblood said:

Oregonblitzkrieg pumping up Michigan State thinks this win over Minnesota is way over blown
If only TCU and Baylor had played each other
Ohio State beat Minnesota too!!!!## And Michigan State! -
Baylor shouldn't make the playoffs purely by principle. Any team that schedules that shitty of an OOC and has a loss should never be in the top 4

Agree. It was a home win over Minnestota. Big deal.RaceBannon said:Oregonblitzkrieg pumping up Michigan State thinks this win over Minnesota is way over blown
