Those were two of the most painful plays of the game.

The plays that you call on 2nd and goal from the 3 with this team is a run up the middle with Shaq or a play action boot that takes the TE to the back corner of the end zone. The play action worked, the TE was open, and Miles didn't throw the ball. For all of the bashing of Smith, it was a great call that wasn't executed.

The next play was a sprint out run/pass option that I believe had Mickens going to the front pylon ... which again was open ... and which again Miles didn't throw the ball.

I know that @RoadDawg55‌ likes to give me shit for how much I bash on Miles, but the simple fact of the matter is that those are very basic plays for a PAC QB to make and Miles can't make them. It's extremely difficult to call plays when the plays that you know will work can't be called because the QB can't execute them ... and just as importantly, the defense knows that he can't execute them. IMO, this is why you see stupid ass reverses and trick plays in the red zone because they are trying to do anything to find a way to an easy score and often just flat out over think themselves.

We really only run a few plays well on this team and they generally involve running between the tackles and anything where Shaq has the ball in his hands. It's hard to completely evaluate the RBs given that everybody knows that we're going to run and they don't respect the plays down the field (although in fairness I think Coleman/Washington at this point are just very average RBs). The OL is pretty much the same average crew that we had last year. The WR position is an absolute dreckfest ... but even when they are open they often don't get much to judge them against. And I think Perkins has a chance to be a solid option but the things that he can give you don't match what Miles can give you in the passing game.

It's just a lot of pieces that don't fit together well ... very much square pegs and round holes.

There were at least 10 snaps that were fucking horrible, and many more that were off the mark. For a team that snaps 99% out of the shotgun, I don't know how they can be that bad this late in the season. It's not like we are breaking in a new center. It's not like we can use the excuse that our center was outmatched this game either. He goes up against Shelton in practice every day for Christ's sake.

You're probably right, I guess I just didn't really start noticing it until the UCLA game. Guess I gotta go back and watch the game film.
