Who's your NFL #1 pick this year?

Nix has exceeded my expectations, which were that he'd be a caretaker QB at best. I didn't expect his athleticism to work as well in the NFL as it has. For whatever reason, I'm still surprised when I see a highlight of him running for first downs.
McCarthy has exceeded my expectations as well in that I expected literally nothing out of him and thought whichever team drafted him would have to be incompetent.
I had low expectations for both.
Penix - also in line with expectations in that I expected him to get hurt. We? all said that as much fun as he was to watch he's injury prone.

Not sure if it's a current state of college football lack of development thing but I'm finding myself generally underwhelmed with the guys I see at the top of mock drafts the past couple of years. Reese and Downs at Ohio State easily feel like the two #1 overall top pick types on the board. I'm guessing there's a good chance it's Mendoza. I haven't seen a QB in college since 2023 though that I'd feel remotely comfortable banking my franchise future on though.

The Class of 2024 is fun to watch. I remember Nix' running being scary in 2022 and assume they limited it in 2023 to keep him healthy.
I wonder if it's not a coincidence the two QBs thriving from that class are the two that went to the two franchises that aren't terrible.
It's hard to say but I'm wondering if the 2022-23 Dwags was more of a convergence of a lot of really good players/coach as opposed to anyone truly being exceptional. There's an odd chance Jalen McMillan is the best pro of any of them.
The problem for QBs coming out of college now is it seems like there's an endless cycle of the dogshit NFL franchises always looking for a new QB every year now and I wonder if we get elite QBs in the future if they might start to try and dictate which places they go to ala Elway and Eli.

The Netflix special on Elway, which is well done btw, covered this part of his history pretty well. Poor fucker had to go into Baltimore as rookie while he was still struggling, and Baltimore is kind of a ruff and tuff place generally. Colts beat the ever loving out of him with 80,000 or whatever people Baltimore trash people wanting to see him burned at the stake.
People forget what a fucking stallion of an athlete that guy was. I don't but people do. Fun fact I was reminded of: Elway never won a bowl game at Furd. Other fun fact: he actually cared a lot about the Big Game loss. Competitive dude.
Aberdeen, Washington got about a 1.5 second cameo in it as one of the stopping places in Papa Elway's coaching career. There are still Elways living down on the Harb. John isn't one of them, in case you were wondering.

McMillan will be very good if he can stay healthy. He runs good routes, is quick, and makes tough catches. I think he’s better than Rome when it comes to getting open, which is the most important trait in the NFL. The contested catches get harder in the NFL.
Rosengarten will be a 10+ year guy in the NFL. He’s a good tackle already and ranked fairly high on PFF. Fautanu might be as well. He’s rated above average on PFF. Those two might be the best.
It’s too bad Trice has blown out two knees. I think he had a chance in the NFL as well. He was really good on some average at best defenses. They would have been a lot worse without him. He had big plays with hurries and TFL’s in the PAC 12 championship and against Texas.

Elway posts up at Shooters in Rockford Bay on occasion. Used to be more frequently but he lost a shit ton of money when his buddy Marshall Chesrown damned near took down every bank in the Inland Northwest during the financial crisis.
Used to be a fixture at the CDA Resort but they got tired of pouring him into a boat and ferrying him back to his cabin.

Was gonna say the same, the two tackles will probably be the best 2. Hopefully Rome can get right. Rome + Burden and McMillan + Egbuka are set up for success with decent QBs and other passing game options. but earning a pro bowl nod feels like a huge step for either of them, while the tackles will probably get there.

The opposite. 90% of NFL catches are contested nobody is running free

Moore will need a good coach or he will end up on the trash heap of overvalued, underskilled QBs who were picked way too early.
I think in most cases, teams are better off drafting positions that are more “sure things” early and wait a round or two to get a QB.
John Schneider seems to have a good track record when it comes to finding QBs, and none of them were early Seattle picks.
Granted, some QBs you can’t pass up early, but history shows you’re probably better off not pulling the trigger — unless you’re a decent team with great coaching that had an early pick for some reason.

Atlanta definitely misses McGary. It looks like their OL didn't totally fall off but they also lost another key piece (I think their 6th guy). Since he isn't very mobile and is injury prone, he needs a good OL to let his left arm and mental processing do its thing.
Elijah Wilkinson replaced McGary at RT (Penix's blindside) and has been one of the worst pass-blocking OTs in the league.
