Heritage is just meeting the customer where they are. This article could just be about what’s happened to the Republican Party over the last 15ish years. Pence and those that followed him foolishly think there’s a future for Normal Republicans (Reagan/Bush) but that party is dead and isn’t coming back. The base wants crazy, they want the conspiracy theories and open racism.
I think back to my Republican days (early to mid 2000s) and a guy like Alex Jones was considered a sideshow freak. He was the crazy guy with the bullhorn screaming about 9/11 being an inside job. Now he’s mainstream. He hasn’t changed, he’s the same guy he always was but the party came to him. Shit, we have a fucking Senators who’s a 9/11 Truther. Completely unthinkable just 15 years ago.

I vividly remember watching the 1992 GOP convention and thinking how the nuts now made up a sizable chunk of the party. That was jarring to me; I would definitely have characterized myself as a Republican at that time. Those nuts seem almost quaint compared to what has followed. The Republican embrace of populism once Obama got elected really supercharged the lunatic takeover.

Dem disapproval is a function of how bad they bungled 2024 and Schumer/Jefferies being ineffectual, boring talking heads. Dems are pissed off and want a fresh wave of leaders and fighters that fuck autocrats in the mouth.
Its irrelevant to future heads up elections vs the GOP. See: recent elections. The swings to Dems are huge. The GOP is disintegrating rapidly as expected and looking like they're about to be properly fucked in midterms, no lube.
