Another example of a team that when they identify that something isn't the answer not being afraid of trying something else to determine whether that is the answer or they need to continue looking elsewhere.

will Locker's mom kiss Mettenberger to spice things up a bit?

Locker has started 27 games in 4 years plus was a college QB for 3 full seasons.Tequilla said:Another example of a team that when they identify that something isn't the answer not being afraid of trying something else to determine whether that is the answer or they need to continue looking elsewhere.
Miles has started only 7. Not a comparable situation. -

I understand why the Titans may be looking in another direction ...
But at the same time, I think that Jake's got a lot of good football left in him. His biggest problem to this point has been as much due to injuries as anything else. -

But health is a talent, in the sense that some players have it and some do not. Jake, despite seemingly having the ideal build, can't stay healthy. This is why the "he should have played safety" argument is so fucking stupid by the way. He needs less contact, not more.
He probably starts a handful of more games in the NFL but his days as a team's opening day starter are probably over.

Obviously the Titans have not seen footage of the 2007 Syracuse game or the pass to Diandre Goodwin in the USC game

Hell, even Jack fucking Lockner looked better than Miles at that point in his career.

The brutal truth is that Jake was never destined for a good NFL career as a QB. As he himself said in August 2010, if he could do it over again he would have been a safety.

Missed that quote.DerekJohnson said:The brutal truth is that Jake was never destined for a good NFL career as a QB. As he himself said in August 2010, if he could do it over again he would have been a safety.
Along with being the only ND fan here, I really liked Jake. Tremendous athlete, just not a very good player a lot of the time. Had he got real QB development in high school, maybe things would have been different. Also imagine him playing for Tom Osbourne or Chris Ault in their systems. Jake has a shitty head coach & no QB coaching with Willingham, and Sark kept trying to make him into a pocket passer.
-
Jake will never be the most polished QB. What I always admired about him was his ability to make plays at some of the most critical times.
If you look at his numbers this year, he struggled against two of the better defenses in the league (Dallas and Cincy) and had or was on his way to really strong days against KC and Cleveland.
Last year, he had a 92 or better rating in 4 of the 6 games he played and won 4 of the 6 full games he started in.
I would definitely take a flier on him if I was a pretty good team with him being my backup QB. He's got a high enough ceiling that if your starter was to get hurt, he could come in and play at that high level.
It will be interesting to see if he puts himself in a position to go to a bad team that might give him a chance to compete as a starter or whether he goes more the direction of playing for a high end team that could use an upgrade at the the backup position. -
This post implies that Lockner had good football in him at some point.Tequilla said:I understand why the Titans may be looking in another direction ...

Jake Locker should have gone to Oregon and played under Chip Kelly.

I did consider a "Bright Side of Life" theme... -
I know it isn't a popular opinion, but I liked Jake as well.
I'll never forget, when asked, how many opposing Pac-12 coaches said he was the one player they most feared facing on the field. (okay, I forget exactly how many said it... but it was a couple of them, including D. Erickson).
Sure he had some bad games, maybe many of them... but when things were clicking... he seemed unstoppable.
-
If he had the proper coaching and talent around him, who knows what could have happened. He still wouldn't have done much better in the pros though. Personally the soft faggot Seattle media and the Doog's worship of him got really old by 2010, especially when UW was 3-6. I told you so line: When the experts began touting him as a potential first pick, I knew they were either dumb, hadn't done homework, or abundance.uzi said:I know it isn't a popular opinion, but I liked Jake as well.

and Jake never looked upset or stressed out on the field. he never blamed someone for a drop or got concerned; he was just ready to give 100% on the next play and I always figured he might do it. He was a lot of fun to watch and I think he was a hell of a lot better college player than he gets credit for when you consider he dealt with Tyrone and Sark and no o-line. I'll never forget Jake against Ohio State... that dude was impressive by himself.
-
Honestly, those of you with a pathological need to point out that Jake isn't a god QB in the NFL, come across as having a very insecure need to say you were right about predicting this... and that "he should have been a safety" and "only doogs don't get it".Fire_Marshall_Bill said:

I'm sure every kid playing FB would feel lucky to have done as much as Jake's done.
And by the way, many of us don't give a shit about the NFL. It is mainly for the blue collar crowd. (no offense).

Jake should have left a year earlier and cashed in his lottery ticket. He is a journeyman who will last a few years as a backup. Not a bad gig.
