We are preserving Manu’s redshirt so he can go cash in at wherever Fisch goes. Honestly with the portal we should no longer give a fuck if someone burns their redshirt.

The Manu situation is odd. Let's operate assuming Judd is back in 2026, I get the whole save him for 2026 because we have a chance at a bigger season thing, but it's sports, win now and figure it out later.

His size and not seeing the field is a bit of an issue, but he’s a dangerous QB. I think the scheme with him should be more tailored to what he does well, but Fisch loves the NFL, pro style scheme and I don’t think it’s going to drastically change.

I’ll make a few excuses for him… Our OL is average and the best lineman have been injured. The running game has been one step above non existent for weeks now.

He doesn’t have one playmaker that can take a slant to the house. Roebuck and Vines-Bright have been fairly impressive for freshmen, but they aren’t starting WR’s for most teams in the top 25. He also has nobody but Boston that is any threat when covered. Odunze, Polk, and McMillan all made huge grabs even when defenders were all over them.

Demond laid a dud last week and the turnovers were the main difference in the game. He has to get better when things aren’t going great and the game is hard.

I know we hate everything but the kid is a really good player, has too much on his plate, and it falls on Fisch to improve the talent or coach the hell out of the other players to get us where we need to go.

I get it from Manu’s perspective. He’s probably a fringe type NFL player that will never get a dime guaranteed in all likelihood. He wants two years worth of guaranteed NIL vs one. He also plays a position where it’s not that hard to find someone at his level in the portal, so it seems like in the best interest of the program to have him play this year and go replace him next year and get a total of 24 games for the NIL money vs 16.

I should hate myself for talking about next year, but I agree. He will get a couple hundred thousand for staying and have a better shot at getting drafted. He will also be on what should be a much better team, but that isn’t a guarantee.

He’s most likely a back up LB and special teams guy if he lasts a few years in the NFL. He’s taking advantage of the rules and I have no problem with it. The season is over this year anyways.

Yeah no problem with him personally on this, I’m sure I’d want to do the same. Easily argued that this isn’t great for the program as a whole though in getting a return on NIL money. Maybe that’s factored into what he got this year, who knows. That is the coaches job to balance though.

Not to be a Debbie Downer - I’m going to try and enjoy the last 5,6 games which is challenging because of the slow starts and frustrating play. Last week was such a downer because we had a chance of a little momentum heading home. Also not too excited for our prospects next year because our rbs, wrs and corners will be green.

Even if Fisch is poached, we will be starting over again. Hopefully now that Florida has officially opened this lights a fire under Fisch, doubtful because the job was unofficially open to begin the season. Even @GrandpaSankey could see UF would be searching for a new coach 99.9% before the season ended. It will be a miracle if we finish 9-3

I'm on my 2nd cup of coffee so maybe it is making me DOOG some but my hopium is that Willis comes back for Illinois and stabilizes the OL. If he doesn't, at least the coaches have a full week to game plan for Faasolo at LT because he will need a lot of help if Willis can't go.

This truly is a hinge moment in the season. This is as close to a must-win game in Fisch's tenure that I can recall because if he wins this one, he's 6-2 and headed into a massively needed bye week. Winning that 6th game is also a psychological boost for being bowl eligible. This is the type of week that he should be sleeping in the office and doing whatever it takes to get the W. Illinois is coming off a bye week but let's see Fisch and Dougherty have some creativity and show some things that Illinois hasn't seen on film to be the ones to surprise them.
