Saban was playing 4D chess with the farce OC interview after season one. That’s when he and Sexton set everything in motion. UW could have given him the bag but he had his reasons to leave besides money. Even his daughter playing for UW and living away from the family was enough to keep him at Washington. The offense was gutted even if he stayed and after year three he’s not the hot commodity.
He probably took into account a new conference in a transitional year.

Imagine if UW payed him 12 mil after the Oregon game then the next week he loses 14-7 against ASU because Powell doesn't get a goalie pick six. Or he loses to Oregon State because he refuses to run the ball. Or they lose to Ute or Coug which all easily could have happened. Just saying hindsight is 2023
