Yeah, that was not good. Irvin was pretty reckless in those days. He did stupid shit. No question.

I read Jimmy Johnson’s book. He’s not the greatest person. He was an absolutely terrible father. He talked about how he and his coaches would go out drinking every week but he never even watched his sons play high school football because he was too busy.

Johnson? Well, he's in a long line of high performers who failed in their personal life. When the guy was coaching, that's all he was about. IIRC he has owned up to his failings as a parent and husband for that matter, and has never professed to be a choir boy. But he was a fine coach and what he did at Dallas is up there on the list of significant sports accomplishments.
