Consider if Washington was ranked #5 to start the season and had this current record. They would be top 10 with an inside track on the playoffs. As it stands they could beat everyone but Oregon and still miss out. Rankings matter as it's hard to move up quickly at any point in the season. Minimally a #22 spot is deserved and would make the season trajectory feasible.

Most of these polls even take the AP and Coaches poll into their calculations so if the Huskies were ranked higher on those two they would be even higher on the others

#12 in SP+ if priors are removed. Of course if priors are removed, Maryland is rated slightly higher than Bama.

USC is in the same situation where all their metrics say they are way better than their AP ranking though losing to Illinois is their own fault.

This weekend should narrow the field on B1G playoff contenders. USC & UW win their midwest road games then probably 2 out of Oregon, USC & UW get in. Lose those road games and it will be Oregon & some 2 loss team going on a heater to close the season, unless Nebraska is actually good.

This is one anecdotal thing from one game but being in-person for the Coug/Ole Miss game I have a hard believing they are a Top 10 team, let alone Top 5 and I suspect a lot of teams after Ohio State could beat each other any given week. Ole Miss was struggling to dominate on either front against the Coug and they got bailed out on some very big calls - INT wiped out by a holding call away from the ball and two very long Coug passes taken away by procedure penalties I'm pretty sure.
