What the hell happened?

I had a Zoom at 3:30. I pretty much gave up when it was 20-0. Good comeback, I guess.

Defense locked in and the offense had big explosive plays

The loss is on the Maryland coaching staff. They went extremely conservative after the 1st half. To Washington's credit they went to the run in the 3rd and first part of the 4th which opened up the run. If I'm not mistaken, Washington only gave 6 carries to Coleman and 1 to Muhammad in the 1st half. I couldn't tell, but there appeared to be a decent defensive adjustment in the 2nd half too.

Fisch saved his job
Demond remembered he is good
-
Fisch's job was never literally in jeopardy, outside of us wanting him fired. He could go 5-7 this year and he isn't going anywhere unless by his own accord.
-
PGOS and Race were at the tarmac ready to fire him on Chun's behalf
-
Sorry again, committing to the run opened up the pass. That was one of best comebacks I've even seen the Huskies pull off.
-
When it got to. 20-0, I said to the wife “Thank God it is still baseball season, I’m done”, and went to my man cave to watch Yanks / Jays…yer welcome…
-
The Maryland DL looked somewhat gassed, starting in the late 3rd Q. They weren't attacking the UW OL like they had been doing in the 1st half.
-
Didn't Maryland have a 2 to 1 edge in time of possession in the first half?
-
We scored 3 after Maryland went up 20-0, they promptly went 3 and out, and then we started moving the ball and Maryland (and their fans) immediately assumed they were going to lose the game. Snowballed for them after that.
Maryland fans claim the guy who was tossed out for targeting at the end of the first half was really good and cost them the game. I have no idea if that is true but they want an investigation into the Big 10.
Yeah cause the Big 10 is out to support the team which has to play 5 conference opponents off of byes. Sure.gif

Pretty sure I heard one of the announcers say that it looked like Maryland's D got past our OL so many times in the first half, that they were all worn out by the second half.
But I like to think we just made better halftime adjustments.
-
Stalin posted a Maryland post game video and the guy getting kicked out was one of the first things they mentioned.
-
Durfee has never done anything, but our media and a good portion of fans constantly act like he is a huge loss.
-
Feels like they are really toning down how often and what gets called targeting these days but agreed with the announcers that both guys who hit Demond on that play were in question for it and in the Pac-12 both would have been tossed. I also agree with the point that the guys might have been so greased in the first half and may have run out as the game went on.
Other than Ohio State, the staff has seemed to adjust in the second half well and the team turn things on in the 4th quarter, which is encouraging.
-
A lot of over thinking around here. First half Demond did what he did against Ohio State and stared blankly down the field as his receivers ran open and his own running late collapsed. Second half he pulled the trigger (let it rip) a beat sooner and was playing on his front foot.
I wanted to fire Fisch until I rewatched the game and realized good or bad our season shockingly goes as Demond does.
Defense capitalized in the 4th but it was largely thanks to the Derps playing
notto lose -
The mental aspect of football / sports has always interested me and since Demond hardly ever throws interceptions, his INT on the first drive may have rattled him some. He's just a true soph and prides himself on taking care of the ball so I'm glad he was able to bounce back.
Also, the staff may have reminded him that a TE is a QBs best friend while dialing up more plays for DeGraaf.
Against Rutgers, I'd like to see Moore help McCree in pass pro and then have a delayed release as a 3rd read with DeGraaf lined out in the slot.

A little bit of both. Locksley commented after the game they have no depth. Freshman DE’s that looked pretty good came in and started right away. That happens when you don’t have any depth.
We also went faster in the 2nd half because we needed to. We were down big.

Demond threw a pick 6 to start the bowl game and still crushed it so that’s twice he’s proven that he can bounce back. Good shit.👌👌
