Week 1 over reaction thread

Defense is going to get worked like a crack whore in the tuff B1G 10.
UW may be able to outscore some folks moreso than last year.
Williams and Coleman have to stay healthy and carry the team every week
Nothing obvious stood out in regards to coaching decisions which is good. Crisp game well managed
It is going to take more than a giant erector set to build a win over tOSU. Buckeyes looking at 40 minutes of possession and will quiet the crowd early and often
The SEC is done. The ACC is the second best conference behind the B1G. LSU saved the day for the South
DeBoer and the Tide can't get off the field. Same thing in every loss. The the offense puckers and Bama fan fumes. Can't win on the road. Sounds familiar. He has always been an we have to outscore them coach and the Huskies own games like 52-42 over USC. Nothing has really change there.
Probably not here. Is Fisch Temu DeBoer or worse? Better? Doubtful
Pretty sure 3 schools got fucked in the musical chairs. Sometimes a man has got to know his limitations and stay where he is
What if FSU did get in the playoffs and Bama was out in 2023? Saban retires in December and Bama has more time to go shopping. Maybe for Nolan instead of DeBoer
Unsung hero of the day - Gus Malazan, Bama killer from his Auburn days and a true offensive genius, Combine him with that QB and FSU is winning a shit ton of games this year.
Good night

Some more positives that I haven't seen as much posted yet, Race:
-Fusch play calling seemed better than last year. I think having a QB that actually fits the system and an OL that could actually somewhat move at least Mountain West front made a big difference.
-There were some really ill timed penalties but we came out last year with like record setting penalties. Cleaning it up a big was nice.
-That Pepa guy is massive and seemed to make a difference on run plays.
-I'm a little less Chicken Little on the run D after thinking about it more. CSU's second drive it looked like guys didn't know where to line up and how to attack and they got gashed but after that it, it wasn't as bad as you think. Their second TD run was a really gutsy call that basically scored because of shock and Esteen going full Asa. They had no timeouts left and with the time on the clock they likely had to score a TD or possibly not even get a FG attempt.
Now Race, this is Hardcore Husky and there are more negatives we haven't whined about yet:
-I want an apology for the endless people who said I shouldn't worry about the pass catchers. No separation. Boston is the only one who can do anything and he isn't a big separation guy. What happened to the Penn State WR, was he hurt. Looked like we missed Giles Jackson.
-Speaking of pass catchers, we missed Latu. DeGraaf was the only TE targeted I think and it was mostly sideways stuff.
-Year 25 of it's 3rd and long let's just give them the first down now is great.
-Squib kick?
-
New special teams coach does not seem so special. I was hoping things would get cleaned up yesterday but it was more of the same. Kick coverage was suspect and UWs 40th straight year of not being able to kick the ball into the end zone on kickoffs has officially arrived.
-
40 year anniversary calls for some sort of celebration
-
The blocking scheme and run game were better executed than last year.
It's a bit sobering how much a drop off there is after Coleman leaves the game. Mohammed was not impressive and is basically who many thought Richard Newton was.
Boston is a legit 1-2 round NFL talent and Williams is a great distributor of the ball.
The McLaughlin Group! New name for defense.
Linebackers don't seem that talented but I think the d line does some decent run plugging.
This defense will really need big plays to stay alive against decent teams.
Corners are huge and often well-positioned.
Overall, this defense will get dragged by several teams on the schedule.
This is looking like a 5-6 loss team with upside to be a 4 loss team.
-
You have to admire the consistency.
-
Colorado State won 8 games last year and is a decent team.
Clean some things up and stomp WSU
-
McLaughlin is fun to watch.
Coleman taking his craft seriously and finally getting in shape is going to make him a ton of money in his draft rise.
OL struggling with pass blocking is going to get Demond crunched against a real team.
Coug looked awful but you just know they’re gonna play their hearts out vs UW.
Oregon’s future qb at their double A affiliate in Berkeley looks like a great prospect,
Austin novasad looked crisp as Oregon’s starting qb yesterday.
Chinteresting how the SEC’s fall coincides almost 1:1 with the ability of other conferences to pay kids directly, instead of relying on a shady back channel network of catfish farm and car dealership owners (which the sec schools have in spades…big ten and others, not so much). @RaceBannon -
Told ya all the DL was small and soft
HuskyJW always right
-
Purple dildos need to be incorporated somehow.
-
The most alarming piece of this team is the defensive line.
Only name I heard all game was Jacob Lane.
As a unit they only recorded 9 combined tackles… Lane had 5 of them.
Very little pressure on the CSU QB all game save a blitz. Nobody on the interior DL hit a gap to get plays off their timing the entire game. Nobody on the interior DL shed a block to make a tackle in the run game.
Not good. -
Durfee looked smaller than last year, got no pressure, and got mauled.
Hopefully it was an off night.
4 players in the two deeps are banged up, but injuries are loser excuses.
-
40 Year celebration could include Eric Schmidt as the Husky Legend
-
12 hours ago you said the season was over?
-
We should have thrown the DeBoer money at Pete Carrol.
-
Seahoog legend?
-
WSU absolutely sucks, it's going to be a bloodbath.
-
Yeah, Cougs only beat lowly Idaho by 3. THREE!
Oh shit, wait
-
it was at halftime. Then it became not over, but likely over
-
TOO SOON!
-
Except when you aren’t
-
Chinned for Temu DeBoer.
Five and seven still in play.
-
I don't know what Temu means.
-
I thought Mohammed looked pretty good. Sure he averaged 3.6 ypc but he did have a short TD and also had 2 catches for 38 yards (including a 33 yarder).
Is Omari Evans banged up? Rashid Williams is pretty good as a RS-Soph but I didn't expect to see Roebuck ahead of Evans.
I'm not as down on the defense as some others, at least yet. Sure Anterio Thompson and Uiagaleilei really do much but Lane looked great and Pepa had a few tackles. Durfee was around the ball some but didn't register any stats. Overall there were 6 TFLs, which is a big improvement over last year's D.
Against Ohio State, we'll probably see more 5 man fronts:
SDE: Durfee
DT: Thompson
NT: Butler or Davis
DT: Uiagaleilei
WDE: Lane
I'd rather see Uiagalelei as a SDE in 4 man fronts because he's not big / strong enough to hold up as a true DT against more powerful teams.
But I'm glad UW gets Ohio State early at home with a RS-Frosh QB and a somewhat rebuilt offense (with Chip Kelly no longer calling plays).

Play that game 100 times and UW wins by more than 17 in most of them. They had some anti clutch moments and CSU had some clutch moments, but otherwise it was domination. I don't think the final score was indicative of the gap between the two teams. /shrug
-
CSU looked like they put a lot into winning this game. They’re probably a 7 win MWC team but really wanted to get this win for no reason really. It doesn’t matter in their conference play and only matters when the check cashes. Boise looks like ass so maybe I’m wrong
-
say 34-17?
-
Rather easily.
-
In the theme of overreaction the defense got a lot better when #11 stopped playing. When the run defense was melting down the DEs were getting sucked up inside a lot.
Sports are odd. This game statistically has a lot of similarities to the opener against Kent State in 2022 but that game felt like so much more of a domination. The Deboer UW teams just seemed to have such a better rhythm than Fusch.

Reading that Azzopardi and Willis were two of the highest rated tackles in CFB this past week.
It seemed like the Hatchett brothers are who struggled. -
I didn’t notice Azzopardi in a negative sense other than a false start penalty.
