When Raleigh is approaching 60 homers and the Ms are battling to win their 85 games and miss the playoffs by two, y'all can just fuck off. I'm the only real Moog here and I won't let any of you forget it.
That's fair. I guess I've been hurt too many times by the M's. They got me back on the bandwagon with the playoff appearance a few years ago….and the hurt me again.
The key is to not get emotionally tied. I really dgaf about pro sports teams but like following and playing armchair GM more than anything. The Ms are nearby, always give you something to talk about (usually mocking) so I choose them. I'm more interested in what the players do than the team.
I think it goes back to Arthur Rhodes giving up that homer to David Justice. I think that was the 01 ALCS. I won't ever feel that way again about a team when they fail. Even the 23 Huskies didn't really hurt that bad because I learned not to really GAF when it all comes down to it.
I still wear my trident multiple times a week. It really irks me that this team COULD be so much more if the ownership would just open the wallet a bit
Yeah Stanton is one of the most unlikeable pricks I've ever seen.
Part of the failure falls on Dipoto though. Other teams have made runs on lower budgets. When I heard what they were offering Carlos Santana this off-season I made up my mind. Time for him to go. There were quite a few better bats moved that cost far less in terms of trade capitol and/or salary. He put his eggs in the wrong basket, again.
This is why I gave up baseball following the 2001 season. If recall correctly they didn’t do much of anything during the final trade deadline or not enough imo then. Wake me up when they actually begin game 1 of the World Series. Haven’t watched a single game on tv since including the post season. Not even the Cubs motivated be to tune in.
Sick’s Stadium was a mile NE of our neighborhood. Although short lived I loved the Pilot’s or the thought of professional baseball so close as a teen. Jumped back on the wagon once the M’s came to town. Fool me 3,4,5 times shame on me.
Attendance would jump if they spent the money, seattle can draw full house crowds if they spent the money ~ wont do it. Need new ownership that wants to win and is willing to spend the money to do it. Ever heard that before? Instead we have been stuck with Howard Lincoln types that spend enough to keep the team in town and never enough to get to the world series much less win it.
Yep. The fans have shown time and again that they will support and show up for a teams that's trying. Heck, I drove from ID and bought tickets for the entire Braves series a few years ago. They were playing well, they'd just extended Julio, they had an exciting young pitching lineup. Just a few bats away….. two years later….Playing well, just extended Raleigh, an exciting young-ish pitching lineup….just a few bats away…..
I stopped following the team in 2002 or 2003 when Howard Lincoln went on KJR and said Seattle was not like Boston or New York where all that matters is winning the World Series. He said Seattle's main goal was to provide a wonderful family atmosphere at the ballpark. And I asked myself, "Why the hell have I been following this team so closely since I was eight years old, if they're not doing everything they can to win a title?" I stopped watching the games and I have been to the ballpark only twice in about 22 years.

The closed wallet is my biggest frustration. Stanton promised to spend money and care about winning when he took over, but he fucking lied.

Half this lineup belongs in single A. Bunch of nobodies.
Yeah, the lineup doesn't really inspire you to stick around for one more inning.

Beer garden, family amusement loser park, and living off of whomever is alive from the 95 team.
The NS upper deck is all I have left. It’s where my hearing and vocal chords will eventually be retired
