Most of USC's success was recruiting the best guys out west up front that they could usually easily get over the other Pac-10 schools and pairing them with the best RBs out west. No idea why they decided to become a finesse program over the years.
The expansion of out or region recruiting didn't help schools like USC and Texas. It's harder to just sign the best 20 guys in California every year the way USC did for decades and the talent pool isn't what it used to be.
