This is so fucked up. I find it hard to believe that there are ANY politicians who think this is responsible behavior in a free society. I thank God I don't live under an oppressive city government like Portland has. I would never allow me or family to be tortured like they do to people in Portland.
''The county says the deficit is primarily due to a decline in the predicted vs actual revenue from the Supportive Housing Services tax collected by the Metro tax district from higher-income residents and businesses.
The fund relies heavily on wealthy earners selling stock and earning dividends which are hard to predict. In past years revenue from the fund has come in a lot higher than expected resulting in carryover.''
The county was unable to provide a breakdown of those other revenue shortfalls. It also did not immediately respond to an email asking why it was relying on unstable one-time funding for long-term programs.
After spending hundreds of millions of dollars there are more homeless people in the Portland area than before. If you want more pigeons, put out more pigeon feed.
These dumb motherfuckers all spent COVID money like drunken sailors and then never adjusted their budgets back to pre-COVID free money times. Same shit happened in Spokane where the city now faces budget deficits.
Just reset the fucking budgets to 2019. It's not fucking rocket science.
Considering the alternative, Davison was a much needed change in Seattle. That said this just seems to be pandering to the Seattle base, who almost elected someone who virtually didn't want to prosecute anyone.

They don't spend the money on the homeless. The grift exists in state and local government too.
Things I get to vote on in local elections: Schools, libraries, zoo, parks, fire and police. What I don't get to vote on is money for illegals.
