A good top for raising a good player from a young age is to give them half a bag of clubs. Force them to learn to hit a 7 iron like a 6 or 8 iron. No one ever practices that stuff.

I packed around an old standard 3/5/7/9 set, plus a 2 iron, for many years. I went from shooting in the 60s per 9 to dipping under 100 for 18 using that set.

I played my mom’s Louise Suggs clubs from about 12-14, when I got strong enough to start snapping them…moved on to Dad’s Sam Snead Blue Ridge set. Leather grips, flat on one side…they are currently in my garage…

My old 2 iron (really it was my dad's) had a hard leather grip with a flat side on it. I loved that grip. I crushed that club off the tee and it was the one least likely to go a mile right on me.

Henry Griffitts out of Coeur d'Alene, ID. Custom fit clubs and they have fitters located all over the country. I've played with these clubs for decades, love 'em.
