Who are "they" exactly? I'm pushing 50 down here and for my entire life my parents, coaches, every doctor and dentist I've talked to, etc, has told me sugar is a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Yeah I've always heard sugar is bad. I think the nuance is that my doctor says sugar is bad without any deeper understanding than it can cause cavities and weight gain. I've never heard anyone say that sugar can disrupt your immune system. To be fair, I also don't think that was researched much until recently.

Also, 75 grams of sugar is a shit ton if you don't drink soda.

The glycemic index of sugar is high. Ergo, bad. No nutritional value on its own.

In a fruit, in dairy, etc, nutrition comes alongside it.

This is a little hard to believe. 75 grams is about two cokes or one of those big, sweet Starbucks drinks and I know people who regularly consume that amount. If their immune system shut down for 5 hours every time they did that, there's no way they'd survive since you're under pathogen attack all the time. This just doesn't pass the eyeball test for me. I only read the headlines, though.

As I've said on countless threads on here now, my T1 beetus is really well controlled, but sometimes shit happens and it doesn't add up and you get a little out of control, until adapting to whatever has changed accordingly.

I could swear that most colds I get come after a period where "something" is different and my sugars are off (high). Often they are high cause there was an event and chose to eat something fun and not be as strict. It always feels that way in hindsight when I'm sick anyway.

So excess sugar harming the immune system makes logical sense from my personal observations.

The number of people that will flip a bitch about the typical vices but then sit and suck down sugar regularly via soda, cookies, whatever is a fucking massive percentage of this country.
