Thanks for the tips! Other than the $170 price tag for Covid test, the Hawaii process isn’t too bad. Alaska Airlines has testing locations throughout the west coast with Carbon Health. Also had to take a complimentary test after arriving in KOA. Things are open, but at less capacity, so less crowds.

All Hawaiians are colonists. The original Marquesas Hawaiians were murdered out by the Tahitian colonists, who are now considered native Hawaiians. Those Tahitian blood priests were later Doled by further subsequent colonization.GrundleStiltzkin said:FO, Colonist, weº are full.

I thought the Tahitians were Marquesans too?Purple_Pills said:

Pololu Valley Lookout and hike down to the black sand beach.
If you go that way, we had a great sushi lunch in Kapaau. Can't remember the name, but can ask the wife if you are interested.

After a week here I have some recommendations.
- Stay in the Kohala resort area at least part of the trip. It’s in the rain shadow, so best weather on the island. There are many great beaches in the area and if you are willing to walk for 15 minutes, you can practically have one for yourself. The secret pond at Mauna Lani Is pretty cool. Lava Lava Beach Club is the best happy hour in the area.
- it’s a great time to stay at Volcano House in the National Park. If the weather is nice you can see the glow from the magma at night.
- Go to Greenwell for the free coffee tour.
- drive to the top of Mauna Kea. You will need 4 wheel drive, but it is any easy thing to do if you know how to use the low gear instead of brakes for the descent. The Mana Round around the flanks is supposed to be amazing, but I wasn’t able to fit it in.
- Akaka Falls north of Hilo is awesome. -

Bumping this. Year #5 here, so I think that now makes me a local, you haoles.
State has totally upgraded the roads since last year. Turning back on the faucet of fountain lava at Kilauea has been a smart move too. -

Paint your roof blue.
-
My neighbor’s roof, Chef Roy Yamaguchi, is copper and copper green.
-
charter a fishing boat out of Kona. I have scored every time.

The Lava Lava Beach Club on Kauai had the best happy hour pre COVID. Went last year and it’s not the same deal. Rather disappointing.
