If there's something more aggravating than a $3 avacado

that is riddled with brown streaks, well, I'd like to know what that is.

I think @bleachedanusavocadodawg is available.
-
Last time I saw a brown streak mixed in something green was on the drive home from Bend after my oldest ate blue bubble gum ice cream.
-
$4 dollar avocado riddled with brown streaks?
-
Most grocery produce sucks. My family is starting to grow vegetables and probably going to joining a CSA (Community-supported agriculture) org next year.
Problem is that’s pretty limited and expensive, so it can’t replace everything.
-
Did a CSA a few years, and they are great but damn the time commitment involved. And the commitment to eating what is in season. I can only take so much squash.
-
My small, local store does pretty well. The produce section is better than Safeway and priced similarly which is saying something for such a small place.
I made the OP because I was laughing at myself for only getting one avocado…and they were beauties just on the firm side of ripe which is how I like them…only to get home and cut it and find that it was no good. No diced avocado in my tortilla soup.
-
Went to Mexican food truck today.
$8 for a torta. (Mexican for sandwich)
$4 to add avocado to said sandwich.
-
-
Eggs are back to $5-8+ for 12.
-
I have three chickens that keep up with my egg demands. I've heard about the rise and fall and rise again of egg prices, but haven't bought any for several years.
-
But it was really good, right?

Kind of Tuggy but acceptable.
@UW_Doog_Bot may have thoughts.
-
Does it matter if there's no income tax?
-
Sure, pal. So we’re gonna party like it’s 1899?

Republics @UW_Doog_Bot (and taxation via tariffs) are way easier when life expectancy is 46 years (e.g., 1900) and the Ruskies or the Germans don't have the industrial/naval capacity to cross our vast moats and land an army on our shores.
-
So should I have you marked down for "not for a republic"?
Also, I'm just messing around. TITTT if you want to actually talk tariffs and trade policy.
-
I only buy avocados when they're on sale. They aren't that good, and, quite honestly, I only eat them in the form of guacamole.
-
You can come join me on the Peter Zeihan higher level discussion board!
-
I have good luck with Costco avocados.
Also, I can imagine a better food to put in one's belly than avocados. I'm always making some fruity guy avocado toast.
-
The guy Trump is proposing for Treasury Secretary (I think) had a bit on the effects of tariffs at the individual US household level. He projected something like $30K per year INCREASE in disposable income as a result of increased GDP and decreased tax burden.
Will try to find it.
-
Zeihan has some good international takes and some absolutely terrible domestic takes.
Very much trapped in an existing zeitgeist but he's very eloquent in his illustrations of it.
If anything i like listening to him not because I think he's right but because it's a window into the thinking happening in that demographic of DC/Beltway.
-
I know they're healthy and all, but there are plenty of other healthy things that have actual flavor and aren't yuppy foods. I can't do the avocado toast thing, man. I just can't.
-
Oh…is this still about avocados?
They're good for you. Good system lube. I eat a lot of guac, but I also like them diced up in some soups and on salad. They also save some half assed efforts at assembling a lunch.
-
Bitchin' Camaros and avocado toast just don't work together. But I drive around in a Audi wagon a lot of the time.
-
Peter is full of shit 40 or 50 percent of the time, but he's been on the forefront of demographics for a long time and the challenge this poses for the Childless Cat Lady countries. I still enjoy his shit takes.
-
It's not that hard. We? don't actually have free trade. Not even within NAFTA. We have given others free access to our markets while getting restricted access to theirs in return.
This comes out of a post WW2 paradigm of rebuilding the first world and industrializing the 3rd world. Again, zeitgeist.
Americans subsidized all of that growth. Why are we still paying for that?
That time has long since passed. Free trade is a carrot and tariffs are the stick. Remove all protection ism and we can talk free trade but until then it will be fair trade instead.
-
Which is basically plagiarisms of Zeihan's shit. Free trade wasn't about economic benefit to the US, but rather propping up allies we needed during the Cold War. A "bribe" as he calls it to be on our team.
