I still haven’t seen anything from Demond in the passing game that looks super promising. I’d like to see him get an entire half at some point just to see what he looks like with the full set of downs and whole playbook.
wow, can’t like this, looser approach dude. You cant win a Natty every year, we’ve had more luck than most. Make the best out of what you have, they’ll be back(2026 will be special).
If your wife had your approach she would trade you in for a bigger-dick gunslinger
I'd give Rogers 70% of the snaps and Demond 30%. Demond should take over in the red zone, because Rogers panick scrambles every play in the red zone and throws duds there.
Demond still needs to gain 15 pounds or he won't last long as a full-time starter.
Other transfer QBs will look at Rogers getting potentially benched by Fisch and say "no thanks, next".
UW will need to get a backup QB next year in the portal.
I said it in the game thread, but there's a new politics in college football that really ties a coach's hands behind his back. You bring in a super senior transfer QB from the portal, he'd better play. If he doesn't, good luck getting the next transfer QB. Every other team shopping that market can then use that against you: "Look what Fisch did to Rogers. Totally left him out hanging. I wouldn't do that to you. You're our guy."
On the other hand, Fisch has to worry about his freshman backup bolting for greener pastures, too. It's either give Williams enough snaps to feel like he's the face of the program or he leaves. Make Rogers The Guy or he leaves. It's hard to do both and have any kind of continuity on that side of the ball. College football sucks the biggest balls now. I'm about to quit it like I did college basketball a decade or so ago.
This bored is soft. As a coach, you don’t worry about perception and ‘what if’s’
I’m sure Fisch had a convo with Roger’s on day one that his spot is not guaranteed, we play to win the game and I’m going with whomever gives us the best chance. You attract winners that way, the entitled pusses that think it’s owed to them…..LEAVE
but then, do you ever want people who are afraid of competition? It’s not like he hasn’t been given the reigns. If he came and did not have a legit shot at it, yeah, bad for the next portal campaign. But this is different.
also, you could apply the same logic to HS recruits. Don't go there; they favor their portal guys.
It’s all super fucked up. I hate all the portaling even though sometimes you get a savior like Penix.
I hear what you're saying but the staff may want to take it week by week, particularly after a much needed bye. McCree could be back and Memmelaar was banged up so if the OL could look at lot better with both back in and Hatchett (or Memmelaar) at RG to replace Vinoki.
So my guess is that the staff sticks with the current plan thinking that the OL had an awful game which impacted a non-mobile QB like Rogers. If the OL sucks again, they definitely should give Demond more snaps since he can escape trouble much better.
Benching a Captain seems smart. May as well bench Grady too since he can’t hit a FG consistently. With the OTs being 3 of the worst in CFB it doesn’t matter who’s back at QB. Do you want the scrambler or the guy who can get the ball out faster?
This is a fair critique. There's barely been any sacks he's taken that are straight up you're like the pressure came so fast there was no other option.
I do wonder, though, how many of the sacks have come not so fast (like a lineman totally blowing an assignment) but also not due to Rogers holding onto the ball. I saw at least 3 sacks in the Iowa game that was due to linemen getting beat (mostly Vinoki and Faasolo).
But Fisch and Carroll don't escape notice because if your starting LT goes out and your back-up is a RS-Frosh with limited experience while your RG is struggling too, why fling it around so much? After McCree went out early, I would have gone more conservative to account for that. I didn't see much play-calling meant to slow down the pass rush either (such as a TE screen where the TE chips the aggressive DE and then turns for the ball). I'm not sure they ever called a draw on 3rd and medium or long either (especially in 4 down territory) that could have exploited Iowa pinning their ears back either.
I should acknowledge that Fisch / Carroll dialed up at least one big play and Rogers missed the receiver. This 2024 squad doesn't have much margin for error with a totally new OL and it sure would be nice to have Quinten Moore back too.

I feel that but also realize that each game they win will have some fun left. SC is GETTABLE

He overthrows everything that's more than 10 yards downfield.

going into the bye week, good time to make the switch.

Demond isnt good enough to beat the guy as a freshman and should be fine riding the bench for a year like 99% of true freshman out there
I mean, that is a good point.

Rogers doesn't get the ball out

8th in yards
8th in completion percentage
22nd in TDs (tied with Gabriel, 1 more than Milroe)
Just because you once had a thought doesn't mean you need to maintain it forever. It's detracting from the actual problems
Lies, damn lies and statistics…
What's his completion % inside the red zone?
Great stats
They are for losers Mrs Rogers
Give him some snaps, both meaningful and in garbage time to see what you have for the future and for development.
I don't think you bench Rogers. It's not going to help anything.
