LONDON, Oct 7 (Reuters) – BP has abandoned a target to cut oil and gas output by 2030 as CEO Murray Auchincloss scales back the firm’s energy transition strategy to regain investor confidence, three sources with knowledge of the matter said.
When unveiled in 2020, BP’s strategy was the sector’s most ambitious with a pledge to cut output by 40% while rapidly growing renewables by 2030. BP scaled back the target in February last year to a 25% reduction, which would leave it producing 2 million barrels per day at the end of the decade, as investors focused on near-term returns rather than the energy transition.

President Joe Biden will be in Wisconsin on Oct. 8 to announce a $2.6 billion investment to replace lead pipes, according to senior administration officials.
The funding was allocated under the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which set aside $15 billion over five years for replacing lead pipes. The Clean Water State Revolving Fund under the bill gives an additional $11.7 billion that can be used toward this effort.

Remember when Madonna and Kathleen Turner began appearing on talk shows doing bizarre accents and pretending that's just their natural way of speaking? I think Kathleen Turner was shooting for some kind Italian/Spanish pidgin language (perhaps she got it from The Paolo) and Madonna was doing some kind of puffed-up RP English accent with Italian-Spanish-French flourishes.
I did say that Kamala Harris was scrambling to debut a new accent. The old front runners were Cockney Orphan and Crocodile Dundee.

The new NBA season kicked off with an exhibition game last week in the United Arab Emirates.

Like many sports leagues, the NBA seeks to increase its revenue by expanding its global following. For the UAE, being awarded the NBA season opener affirms the country’s stature and importance.
Of note, homosexuality is a crime in the United Arab Emirates, with allowable punishment including the death penalty. Transgender cross-dressing is also a crime.
Also of note, the NBA has established the precedent that it either condones or condemns a location’s criminal code regarding sexual behaviors by how the league awards – or revokes - featured exhibition games. By awarding the season-opening exhibition game to Abu Dhabi, the NBA has endorsed the UAE’s brutal criminalization of LGBTQ behavior.
The NBA’s apparent endorsement of criminalizing homosexuality in the Arab world would seem puzzling, because just a few years ago, the NBA revoked the NBA All-Star game from the city of Charlotte after the North Carolina legislature passed legislation banning biological men from entering women’s restrooms and locker rooms.
