I'm already of the belief that Putin is hanging on and trying not to be pulled into a nuclear war with the hopes that Trump will get back into office and a peace deal can be brokered. It is my unsubstantiated theory that Trump and Putin have talked in these terms.

Agree with the idea Putin is holding out hope for a new administration, one that has openly said it would end the UKR conflict.
That said, had Trump and Putin been conversing behind close doors, you can bet certain deep state intel would make sure that headline was EVERYWHERE. Russia Russia Russia on steroids. Recall Russiagate lasted two years.
