Uhh, Mustaine is massively better than Hetfield.

Would agree technically but Dave is more of a Lead player than James and James had the special sauce for the more memorable jams.

Eddie VH had a lot to say about the lead / rhythm roles. He had great common sense along with musicianship. For the guitar was not a lead or rhythm instrument but both in varying degrees.
“Eruption, like most of the other songs on the first album, was performed pretty much live. We had been in the studio for the first time ever about a year earlier with Gene Simmons of Kiss, and I quickly learned that I didn’t like overdubbing.
"Simmons produced a three-song demo for us that consisted of Runnin’ with the Devil, House of Pain and a song called Babe, Don’t Leave Me Alone. Gene said, ‘Here’s what you do in the studio - you play your rhythm parts on one track, and your solo parts on another.’
“I remember feeling very uncomfortable with separating my lead and fill parts from my rhythm parts. Onstage, I’d gotten used to doing both simultaneously. I’d just noodle in between chord lines. Because it was my first time in a recording studio, it didn’t occur to me to say, ‘Can’t I play just the way I play live?’

Is he not the lead guitarist for Megadeath? Or is Megadeath like Skynyrd or the Allman bros with like dueling lead guitarists.

He is listed as a rhythm guitar player in liner notes yes… but you can see him play several lead guitar solos where as Kirk plays like 90% of the solos in Metallica. Dave is a better guitar player than James. I agree for Christ sake.

Lead for Metallica, co-lead of sorts with Megadeth. Great rhythm guitar player as well. James has more memorable riffs.

I would say he plays maybe a quarter of the lead stuff. The rotating lead guitar players handle most of the massive shredding solos.

I’ll need to do some study to narrow it down, but I dispute some of the names on list. For one, Keith Richards. This list should exclusively feature primary rhythm guitarists. Also, we should focus only on rhythm guitar and ignore any other aspect, such as singing and song writing. Sorry John Lennon. I’m stuck between Young and Hetfeild when just focused on primary rhythm guitarists.

I’m not a musician, but when I googled the Stones two most famous riffs, it’s Keith. Some bands their guitarists go back and forth between lead and rhythm, like Keith, which is why I don’t put him in this category. You play significant time on lead, then should not be on list.
