That's why they should have body cameras and have to use them. If I'm on a jury and the cop didn't have on his body camera that's one strike against the prosecution. The body cam footage of St. George saying he couldn't breath before Chauvin got involved should have been reasonable doubt when combined with his fentanyl use and his poor health.

Breonna Taylor was the result of a stupid maybe no knock raid at night. Police said they knocked, Taylor's boyfriend said they didn't. Boyfriend fired first, wounding an officer. Boyfriend use Taylor as a body shield. Still these kind of raids for low level drug offenses are stupid and if the cops want to fuck around they occasionally find out. Get a search warrant and serve it as the target exits his apartment building.

Shouldn't be up to the cop to turn it off- once he gets out of the car it should be automatically activated. and I say this because nine out of ten times it would be beneficial the officer.

Proximity switch! Awesome idea, as soon as the officer exits his/her vehicle the body cam automatically activates. (Car cam already recording)
I don't like that audio can be switched off either.

I think every politician and bearaucrat paid by our tax dollars should be required to wear body cam and their office equipped with cameras because it's a PUBLIC job and Big Brother needs Mother to check in on occasion .
Notice how YOU are being recorded wherever You go outside of your home and have no say as a "PRIVATE" citizen.. but they (politicians ) are supposed to work for us....🤔

In my experience recordings quash a complaint 99% of the tim. I've had to watch a lot of them and decide.
Camera battery wouldn't last long enough to do those things. Also everything has to be downloaded every day and it'd an enormous amount of data and time to find anything. Most agencies also have cameras in the car that come pre-record 30 seconds and then keep that film when the overheads are activated.

A while. It's a PITA going through all that stuff. Tech may have advanced since I retired. We also had a policy that staff can't just surf all the video/audio just to snoop without a complaint or other compelling reason. Keeps asshole left supervisors from targeting people. I had one that did that shit and had to slap him down but I hear he's back to his old tricks…

They eventually dropped charges against the boyfriend even after it’s a known fact he fired on police officers.

No one wants to see recording of officers taking a shit, piss, talking on the phone and a zillion other things that are not needed. They have a few rights left. But not many.

Thats a fair point- One that I wasn't thinking of. But any interaction with a citizen/other cops need to be recorded.
Again- this is mainly for the protection of the cop. I can provide ten videos in a heartbeat where they all exonerate the officer.

All cops understand this. But like I said shit happens fast and unexpectedly at times and there isn't time to turn one on. We wents through audio recorders and then car cams, then body cams. But there also need to be rules about when they get looked at to protect officers. Some admin people just want to sit and surf the recordings and file complaints. That was against the rules at our place. Didn't mean some did it anyway. If I was in charge of them I'd btch slap 'em. Administratively. I'd rather actually just bitch slap them for real. That's the probem with todays society. If you're a dick people wouldn't allow it and they'd kick your ass for the shit you pulled. That's why we are no longer a polite nation…

What's your issue with them going through film? If you are following proper procedures, it shouldn't be an issue, right? As to on and off, obviously if you are on break it should be off, but the second you are on duty it should be turned back on.
