Seattle police suggested that members of University of Washington’s athletic department staff knew about and discussed a rape allegation against Tylin “Tybo” Rogers before allowing the sophomore running back to continue playing in the fall, according to a document detailing the agency’s investigation into Rogers.

The document, released Monday through a public disclosure request, points to emails sent within UW’s athletic department Nov. 30, two days after one of Rogers’ alleged victims posted on social media about the attack and filed a Title IX report against him at the university.

“The timeline of social media posts as well as [Rogers’] suspension led me to believe there is a connection between his suspension and her disclosure of the assault, especially after the comments made by the coaching staff,” Seattle police Detective Emily Akiyama wrote in the report.

The emails confirmed Rogers was removed from the travel roster for the Pac-12 Championship Game on Dec. 1 but did not explain why, according to the document. Rogers, who has been suspended from the team, has pleaded not guilty to charges of second- and third-degree rape, and his attorney has said he is innocent.

Two women, a 19-year-old Seattle Central College student and a 22-year-old UW student, have accused Rogers of raping them in October and November. He and another Husky football player have also been recently charged in an unrelated attack on a bicyclist.

The 19-year-old contacted Seattle police Oct. 28 after Rogers allegedly raped her inside her apartment. She reported him to the university’s Title IX office and posted on social media about the alleged attack one month later.

Investigators also pointed to text messages involving UW athletics staff referencing Rogers that were sent within two weeks of the woman’s Nov. 28 social media post and Title IX report. The messages were followed up with a phone call, so the responses weren’t documented.

One screenshot shows a text message sent Dec. 6 to an unidentified UW football coach asking the coach to share contact information for a defense attorney with Rogers.

Another screenshot showed Cameron Elisara, director of football player development, messaged then-UW head coach Kalen DeBoer the same day.

“WTF did Tybo do?” Elisara wrote. “I got people blowing me up about it. I won’t say anything if you don’t want me to obviously but I was just on ESPN radio and somebody brought it up.”

In the screenshot, DeBoer didn’t message back. Instead he FaceTimed Elisara.

At the time, Ryan Grubb, then UW’s football offensive coordinator, told Inside the Huskies, a Sports Illustrated FanNation website, that they were working on “some challenges [Rogers] had off the field” but declined to say more about why Rogers was taken off the field.

Less than three weeks after the woman reported Rogers to the university’s Title IX office, which investigates complaints of sexual misconduct by university students and staff, he returned to practice Dec. 15. He played in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 and the College Football Playoff Championship Game on Jan. 8.

It’s unclear how much the university’s athletic department knew about the allegation against Rogers last fall, and three men best positioned to answer questions have since resigned for other jobs.

Grubb and DeBoer left Jan. 12 to take the same positions at Alabama. Grubb has since returned to Seattle to work as the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator. And Troy Dannen, then UW’s athletic director, abruptly left March 20 after less than six months on the job to take the same position at the University of Nebraska.

All three have either declined to comment on the case or have not responded to inquiries from reporters.

UW’s new coach, Jedd Fisch, said he suspended Rogers indefinitely as soon as he learned of the allegations against him, but declined to say more.

“I wasn’t here for that,” Fisch said. “That has nothing to do with me.”

In a statement issued after the criminal charges, UW spokesperson Genevieve Haas said the university “cooperated and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement in this matter.”

“As a result of this arrest, new information has been made available to the UW, and this information will be fully investigated,” Haas said.

Rogers and members of his family have not responded to inquiries from reporters. His attorney, Robert Flennaugh II, said Rogers will “fight every inch of these false claims.”

On Friday, the city attorney’s office charged Rogers and another UW football player in Seattle Municipal Court with misdemeanor assault and property destruction relating to a March 11 incident, separate from the rape allegations.

Police say Rogers and Diesel Gordon, a redshirt freshman Husky defensive back, spit on and physically assaulted bicyclist Camden Malone after trying to push him off the road.

The bicyclist reportedly spit at the car Gordon was driving, then Rogers and Gordon chased Malone by car and eventually on foot, a police officer wrote. After catching up to him, the two football players spit on and hit Malone several times, police allege.

Gordon was suspended from the team alongside Rogers on April 5, the day they were arrested at Graves Hall near Husky Stadium, the university confirmed Monday evening.

“We have been aware that these serious charges — which are related to an incident previously reported in the media — were pending and have been cooperating with police since becoming aware of the investigation,” a spokesperson for UW said in an email. “Both students were suspended from all football team activities on April 5, and remain suspended indefinitely.”

Malone previously said he was worried about Rogers being out on bail for the rape cases.

“It worries me for him to be out after being arrested — I’m terrified to even ride my bike home,” he said.

After the arrest, Rogers was charged in King County Superior Court with the two rape counts and was released after posting a bond for 10% of his $300,000 bail, records show.

After Rogers’ arraignment in the rape cases, Flennaugh told reporters outside the courtroom “there are a lot of issues, and we’re going to address them in court.”

The trial is set for July 8.

So much bicycle hate these days. Granted, some bicyclists are quite retarded. Fetters is just jealous though. Even carbon fiber is no match.

I've driven through Seattle about 20 times my life and about 3-4 times I've had some dickhead cyclist get aggressive. Fuck them.

From what I've read I hope Tybo ends up behind bars. I don't know of what is revealed his is as gotcha as the tone of the story suggests. It was pretty clear people knew something had happened when he got suspended for the championship game.

I've driven through Seattle thousands of times in my life and have encountered a dumbfuck or aggressive driver 100% of those times. I'm more concerned with them. This isn't a bicyclist issue. This is a retarded human issue.

You're not entirely wrong, although some miles on a bike wouldn't hurt you, big fella.

Seattle bike commuters can be obnoxious as hell.

Fortunately, I was able to move to a magical happy land where the bike lanes are wide and Mt Bike trails are plentiful. Conflicts between auto and bikes are pretty rare.

I'm going on a ride a lunch today.

If the bicyclist spit at the car first, what a dumbass. That is not a fight you can win.

I'm just now realizing the majority of the demographic here might be too fat and uncoordinated to ride a bicycle.
