Softy said on the morning show he was a bad fit to begin with. He and Dannen didn’t get along from the start. Patched things up a little but he rubbed a ton of people the wrong way internally and externally with boosters.

I always evaluate sports administrators and coaches by how they get along with jock chasing sports media personalities like Dave Mahler or Kim Grinolds.
It’s why I like Chris Petersen so much, because he hated those types.

It may sound unbelievable but Nebraska has a pretty loud and visible EDI component. Pretty much every public university does.
Lincoln is likely more like Spokane than Seattle, but Dannen isn’t going to be able to ignore the alphabet soup crowd on campus.
Tulane was the right place for him. Should have stayed put.

If someone can articulate what DEI at the UW AD even is, and how exactly it made Dannen's life difficult I might start to believe it. Otherwise this is just Softy throwing shit at the wall.

I don't really think it is all that far in the future. I am pretty sure that is the campus culture now. Not making a value judgement on it, just an observation. Training is probably the most controversial part of it

Trev Alberts details his decision to leave NebraskaOutgoing Univ. of Nebraska AD Trev Alberts said that he “didn’t apply for the Texas A&M job” and “wasn’t trying to leave” Lincoln when the Aggies expressed interest in hiring him to be their AD, according to Sam McKewon of the OMAHA WORLD-HERALD. Alberts said that he “didn’t have a job offer” when reports Wednesday morning announced he was primed to accept the job in College Station. McKewon noted Alberts “’vacillated’ between remaining at NU or leaving for the SEC school.” In leaving his alma mater, Alberts pointed to Texas A&M President Mark A. Welsh, a retired general who “made a strong pitch last weekend.” Alberts said the leadership “is just really critical.” He added, “Maybe not to everyone, but it really is to me. So Gen. Welsh sold me on a really compelling vision. It’s compelling, and he’s a compelling person. ... It’s a unique opportunity at a great school with defined leadership.” McKewon noted NU does not currently have a permanent president. Alberts: “I’m not going to say anything bad about my alma mater. I love Nebraska. But I think it’s fairly obvious there are some challenges. I think the layperson can probably figure that out. I think some of the challenges are reflective of where we are as a society as far as divisive things that are part of our everyday culture” (OMAHA WORLD-HERALD, 3/14).
FUSTRATION ALL AROUND: The AP’s Eric Olson noted Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen said that Alberts’ decision to take the AD job a Texas A&M “was disappointing,” and he implored the university's Board of Regents Thursday to “act quickly to fill vacant leadership positions.” Pillen, a former regent who played football for the Cornhuskers, issued a “call for action.” In recent interviews, Alberts had “expressed frustration that regents had not hired a president to replace Ted Carter,” who was named Ohio State's president last August. Alberts "often praised Carter’s leadership" as well as for work on the plan for a $450M renovation to Memorial Stadium. Alberts reported directly to Carter “rather than the campus chancellor, contrary to tradition” (AP, 3/14).

My Husker family asked me what I thought of Dannen. Told them I haven’t even had time to judge him. They’re already pessimistic

It’s weird to me that Alberts left a week ago and there was a list of possible replacements a foot long. Of course, Dannen wasn’t on it.
With no President in place at Nebraska, I would think most true candidates were not overly excited to go there.
Then, boom, it’s Dannen. I think they were reaching bigtime for this hire. And Dannen was clearly not excited about UW.
