People kept thinking that this program was winning 9 to 10 games next year with a QB that everybody was projecting as Penix (he wasn't) and the same depth gaps on the roster that were never filled in the 2021 and 2022 classes. This idea that they'd just keep adding in the 2nd portal window was more pipe dream than reality as those leaving in that cycle are typically those realizing that they aren't going to play and dropping levels than being people that you want playing at Washington.GreenRiverGatorz said:

Fisch inherited a rebuild
The lack of depth in the program is fairly significant
Add in players portaling and the crater that forms if they leave
I think most have been way too high with what things looked like had none of the upheaval happened
Buckle up … time to build this from the ground up
What part of this board-wide meltdown makes you think people aren't understanding this? It's literally all we're talking about.
2024 for this program is as follows:
- Keep as much talent as possible that has entered the portal and keep (might be able to keep 1/2 to 2/3 of what is in currently at best)
- Get whatever you can from Arizona (most likely going to be those that were in this year's recruiting class and players with multiple years of eligibility vs those with 1 year and the ability to go to the NFL after this year)
- Develop players on this year's roster and give them the opportunity to play and get better over the course of the season to figure out who can and can't be part of the solution going forward
- Recruit like mad and sign what could/should be the largest HS class in the history of UW football
- Attack the portal for the 2025 season
How anybody thinks that this team has a 8-10 win ceiling in 2024 returning 2 starters (at this point) TOTAL by backfilling around the portal is delusional
Enjoy the 2023 journey

I’ll never love or trust again. -
I expect results this year not 25
Nothing has changed with me. Fuck excuses get it done or get the fuck out
Same as always

I was at a wedding this summer with a former UW golfer who is now a current coach in the SEC. He is still fairly connected at UW and told me that UW was on around 7/8 in NIL last year, and that Penix was on 1.75, it was only 1 but fucking Bama tried to jack Penix from us and offered him 1.5, so UW had to up to 1.75.
He told me that UW NIL was good for 3rd in the Pac behind USC (10-12), and Oregon (15ish).
I thought I saw that UW was going to commit to Kalen NIL of around 10-12 if he stayed this year. UW also does have some solid partnerships (see Amazon NIL for Penix, and Adidas (for Penix / Rome). So while UWs NIL isn’t elite, and continues to improve, it’s pretty solid. Dannen seems to also understand this.
He also told me his SEC school had 300k for golf, wild. -

Plus it's a far better ROI to swing your big dick at the country club after winning SEC and Natties -

The biggest problem for 2024 is really twofold ...EsophagealFeces said:
No one I saw explicitly said that, but there’s been a lot of dooging going on, and people saying there was no reason why we shouldn’t win 10 games next year. Numerous people jumped down @PostGameOrangeSlices’ throat when he suggested we were looking at an 8 win season next year. At this point, we’ll be damn lucky to make a bowl game unless we steal all of Arizona’s best players.ExtraChrisB said:

1) We're moving into a new conference where winning at the LOS is paramount ... that's table stakes in the Big10. Every single Big10 school saw Michigan run the ball right down our throats and will default to that game plan until we prove that we can stop it. Obviously not everybody has Michigan's talent but you know it's coming. The UW DL isn't exactly anticipated to materially improve (as it stands) as there are far more departures than there are additions and the LB room is still far more resembling a JAG squad than a bunch of difference makers
2) When factoring in the portal presence of the 4 returning OL with snap experience (3 starters and elder Hatchett) and you're looking at what is potentially a very young and inexperienced OL. That's not a great recipe for success going into the B10.

I didn’t project anything about Rogers & Penix but I looked at what shoulda/coulda/woulda been the roster for 2024 had Fats returned and put the O/U at 9.5ExtraChrisB said:

That was without looking at the schedule and any @Tequilla level deep dive. Probably a little Dooging in my assessment but also giving credit to Fats as a great coach.
