That’s awesome! Jim Nantz is amazing and while he’s not on my Mount Rushmore of announcers, he’s pretty damn close.RaceBannon said: -
Jim did college football back in the day. Wasn't bad
He is the best in golf in my opinion by a lot

I didn’t know that, but that makes sense. Verne Lundquist of course does the college sports/golf thing.RaceBannon said:Jim did college football back in the day. Wasn't bad

The NFL golf announcer double was more common
Pat Summerall might be the goat
Vin Scully did it all including the Masters. Probably is the goat
The 86 Masters film which has been memorized by boomers had Summerall and Ken Venturi in the booth. Ben Wright and Vern Lundquist. And a rookie on 16 named Jim Nance
And the Bear has come out of hibernation at Augusta National- Nance -
Spot on. I think the hardest I took the news of a sports announcer’s passing was obviously KeithRaceBannon said:The NFL golf announcer double was more common

Jackson, but Pat Summerall’s was second. Obviously his golf work was great, but I loved him teamed up with John Madden.
I always cracked up at him reading the CBS evening lineup…which became a bit of a joke:

Thestress of officesex addiction, back injuries, Nike contracts, pain killers, car crashes all took their toll on Tiger. -

Tiger came home in 39 yesterday to shoot a 75
4 under through 8 today. Wonder if he can FINISH
He must love playing. The effort he keeps putting in to basically suck is impressive

I'm still only seeing the rumor stage on this. 600 million. Well bye
LIV is still a clown show. A high paying clown show -
Yeah, I don’t blame many players for bolting, but seriously, fuck those sportwashing Saudis and their stupid tour!RaceBannon said:I'm still only seeing the rumor stage on this. 600 million. Well bye

It's glorified YouTube Golf ... not that there is anything wrong with thatDoog_de_Jour said:

The PGA tour is 4 majors and their big money dozen events. They devalued the rest of the schedule. Nogaf about LIV regardless of who is there. Golf going the way of tennis down the drain. Some kind of merger is inevitable. Unless you win a major like Koepka you are rich and invisible. Not sustainable. Golf was a niche sport anyway

Interesting train wreck in progress

Rivera is the only non major that really matters in my opinion.RaceBannon said:The PGA tour is 4 majors and their big money dozen events. They devalued the rest of the schedule. The most fun event seems to be the Waste Management event in Phoenix or wherever it is in the shitty desert. PGA should have taken LIV seriously a lot sooner.

Ok maybe partially. In terms of youth sports participation in the US in the past 4 years the two fastest growing sports are tennis and golf.
Tennis has a distribution problem for TV since only the majors show up on major TV. Otherwise you need the tennis channel. (In the US)
The Saudis have tried to buy their way in to tennis as well but with so much revenue tied to the women’s game the push back is much stronger. -
I'm in the golf watching demographic
Old circling the drain and white
Also rich allegedly
Lot of kids play soccer too. -
I pay attention to the west coast stuff, Phoenix, Pebble, Riviera and Torrey Pines because I’ve played the tracks…and, the majors / Ryder / Presidents…I’m good with that

I half-follow the Korean LPGA, Very competitive. My two favorites... Yoo Hyun-ju is ranked about 276th so is a non-factor, despite her big endorsement deal with TaylorMade. My other fav is Yoon Ina, but she's still serving a three-year suspension for cheating.RaceBannon said:I'm in the golf watching demographic

Interesting hearing that Daly's best buddy on tour was Fuzzy Zoeller. Can't imagine some of the conversations those two had in practice rounds. -
Fuzzy got canceled before it was cool

El Guapo has one of the better swings of all time, especially considering he's a big boy.
